What happens after the normalization of trans?

The normalization of pedophilia through abolishing age of consent laws.

Am I being alarmist? Thread:

Queer theory argues that the gender binary is an oppressive social construct. Women are "constructed" as weak and helpless, 1/
while men are constructed as strong and competent. Thus, "liberation" requires us to expose and deconstruct the gender binary.

But the gender binary is just one of *many* oppressive binaries. Here's Wilchins in Queer Theory, Gender Theory (46-47) 2/ Image
What's another binary? The adult/child binary. Listen to Lakey et al: "People are just beginning to have a glimpse of what oppression based on age involves.. Children are...considered helpless, dependent, and cute..They experience 10-15 years of unpaid labor and brainwashing" 3/
Or look at this chart (Figure 5.1) from Sensoy and DiAngelo in Is Everyone Really Equal? Notice the oppression of "children" by "adults" via "adultism": 4/ Image
Or look at the Matrix of Oppression from Appendix C from Adams' Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice. "Young people" (not "Young adults"!) are oppressed by adults through "Adultism". 5/ Image
Their argument is that "child" is a socially constructed category that deprives children of agency and power, just like the category of "woman" is socially constructed to deprive women of agency and power.

Children need to be "protected" just like women need to be "protected" 6/
"BUT THAT'S DIFFERENT!" you scream. "CHILDREN REALLY AREN'T CAPABLE OF MAKING THESE DECISIONS"

"Yeah right," says the critical theorist, "that's exactly what men said about women for centuries. In both cases, these claims are just power plays to justify oppression." 7/
"BUT WHAT ABOUT CONSENT?" you demand, "CHILDREN CAN'T CONSENT!"

"Because they're 'inferior' and 'immature'?" says the CT. " But we've already deconstructed that claim."

"NO" you say, "BUT BECAUSE OF POWER DIFFERENTIALS" 8/

Listen to Jagose in Queer Theory, An Introduction: Image
*Follow her reasoning.*

She asks: if you accept that sexual consent is possible despite "power differentials" between people of color/whites and women/men and rich/poor, THEN WHY THINK THEY MAKE SEXUAL CONSENT IMPOSSIBLE FOR CHILDREN?

9/
Moreover, haven't you heard the argument that "third genders exist in other cultures, so the gender binary is fake"?

Well, what about childhood sex in other cultures? Aren't those practices grounds for questioning our culture's taboos about "pedophilia"?

Here's Halperin: 10/ Image
"OK BUT THIS IS ALL SCAREMONGERING. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN, " you say.

I'll leave you with a quote from Kadji Amin's Disturbing Attachments, Genet, Modern Pederasty, and Queer
History.

What’s the optimal way to play poker? I was curious, so over the weekend, I solved a simple version of this problem.

The results were fascinating: 1/
Let's imagine a game called "poker-lite." Two players each put an ante of $1 into a pot and are each given a card numbered 0 to 100.

Player 1 can either fold (Player 2 wins the pot), or bet $1.

Then Player 2 can either fold (Player 1 wins the pot) or also bet $1 to call. 2/
If Player 2 calls, then the player with the higher card wins the pot.

IOW:
If Player 1 folds, Player 2 wins $1.
If Player 1 bets, and then Player 2 folds, Player 1 wins $1.
If neither player folds, then the player with the higher card wins $2.

How similar is this to poker? 3/

Greetings new followers! Here is a thread of articles I've written about the incompatibility of Christianity and critical theory.

"critical theory is a serious and growing threat to the church" 1/
thegospelcoalition.org/article/incomp…
""the central ideas of contemporary critical theorists must be rejected by Christians...they have adopted a framework that is fundamentally incompatible with Christianity in numerous ways." 2/
christianlegalsociety.org/sites/default/…
"CRT will hinder, not help, efforts towards racial unity, justice, and healing." 3/

The argument "you should love your neighbor; therefore, send your kids to public schools, even if they're bad" is a bad one.

If it sounds selfish to value the welfare of your children over some vague common good, consider the analogy of elderly parents: 1/
Imagine your elderly parents needed medical care that you could not provide. Would you put them in a substandard nursing facility where you knew they would be neglected on the grounds that doing so would help the "common good"?

Would you argue that you should put them there 2/
so that they can be "salt and light"?

Would you argue that it's wrong to provide them with good care because you ought to be working to "change the system from inside"?

No, no, and no. You do have duties to the common good, but your duties to your parents take precedence. 3/

Ok games, who's interested in some Space Station Zero probabilities? Check out these calculations.

Here's the probability of rolling N d12s and getting a particular number of successes (taking into account critical failures and critical successes): 1/
Obviously, the more dice you use, the more success you're likely to achieve. And, as expected, since a even role counts as a success, the average # of successes increased as roughly 0.5*N

But here's where it gets interesting. 2/
Look at how the likelihood of zero success at first decreases and then actually *increases* as N goes up. Why? In SSZ, a critical failure (instant 0 success) happens if you roll 2 "1s". But the more dice you use, the more likely you are to roll 2 "1s"! 3/

Last week, I saw a number of people comment on Ligonier's "State of Theology" survey.

Two things are true:
1. People with an "Evangelical" affiliation generally have bad theology
2. People with other affiliations generally have worse theology. Let's dig into the data. 1/
The figure above shows the % of people who "strongly agreed" with the incorrect answer, by their affiliation: Evangelical, Black Protestant, Mainline, or Catholic.

A negative # means a lower % of incorrect answers than average (good!)
A positive # means a higher % (bad!) 2/
Which affiliation was *least* likely to give incorrect answers? Those within Evangelicalism. Here's a pie chart. For 26/35 questions, "evangelicals" were least likely to give incorrect answers. Black Protestants, Mainline, and Catholic were 11/35, 4/35, and 1/35, respectively. 3/

In 2000, The Atlantic published an article about people who desperately want to have their healthy limbs amputated.

Read it. It's like stepping into a time-machine. Quotes to follow: 1/
theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…
"I have been struck by the way wannabes use the language of identity and selfhood in describing their desire to lose a limb. 'I have always felt I should be an amputee.' 'I felt, this is who I was.' 'It is a desire to see myself, be myself, as I know or feel myself to be.'" 2/
"Every one of the wannabes and devotees I have talked with about the Internet says that it has changed everything for them...On the Internet you can find a community to which you can listen or reveal yourself, and instant validation for your condition, whatever it may be." 3/
