Here is a quick analysis of how and why PTR had to discard his self-respect. (Or was forced to)

Amongst the DMK lot, PTR is one of the least corrupt. His trademark arrogance is reflective of his family background, status, education and career history.

It is no secret that he treats other leaders in the party with disdain. However he keeps his emotions private. (2/n)

His loyalty is only to the party Chief and not to anyone else. The leaked PTR files only confirm what outsiders expect to come from someone of his background and stature. (3/n)

It’s good for DMK to retain him, as he can deliver the sheen and glitz that can characterize the party as ‘modern’. However, if he is kicked out of the party, it will be DMK’s loss only

PTR has nothing to lose as he has enough family wealth to survive and sustain. (4/n)

This is one reason why he continued to carry the chip on his shoulders. However, every dog has its day, and even the great PTR had to bend his knee and learn a lesson in humility this week (5/n)

With the pressure mounting on the party, the party almost decided to sack him. But they decided not to as it would have made them look culpable. Instead they made him swallow a humble pill and issue an apologetic and insipid defense (6/n)

You can see from his facial expressions and body language that he doesn’t what he is doing one bit. Compare how Annamalai reacts when there are charges against him.

PTR’s casual arrogance and swagger are gone. His speech lacks conviction. What’s worse is that he was made to sing praises on the party and leadership. He even had to talk about Sabareesan as a guiding force.

The regular PTR would have never done that. (8/n)

While he has been a good soldier, he had to sacrifice the one thing that he held dear all along. His SELF RESPECT.

It is an irony that he was made to do this in a party that projects itself as a beacon of self respect.
