Back in Manhattan federal court for the civil rape trial against Donald Trump ~ E. Jean Carroll is still on the stand, starts by addressing a few points Trump's team has focused on thus far⤵️
1) The CNN interview where she says “I think most people think of rape as being sexy.”
“I meant that rape is used in our culture in entertainment. For instance, in Game of Thrones, there are nine violent rapes, and they were used as plot developments.”
2) She says a convo w/ George Conway at party “crystalized” the intention to file suit, but many journos had already asked if she planned to sue.
Also acknowledges Conway's opinion on the ex-president: “George Conway does not like Donald Trump.”
3) re: lawsuit publicity, Carroll asked if she likes attention (a point Trump & his attys have made repeatedly)
“Getting attention for being raped is not — it’s hard. Getting attention for making a great three-bean salad, that would be good.”
“It doesn’t feel pleasant to be under threat.”
Carroll says she checked Twitter this morning “and there it was again. The onslaught of the, ‘liar, slut, ugly, old.’ It went on and on, just rolling. It’s not a great way to begin the day but I couldn't be more proud to be here.”
Carroll's lawyer shows some of the tweets aimed at her, insulting her looks & accusing her of being paid, and that does it for direct testimony. Cross examination starts in a few mins @CourthouseNews
On cross, Carroll asked if it's true her story came out only when she was trying to sell a book. She says it was bc of Weinstein & seeing women across the country come fwd
“The light dawned. I thought we can actually change things if we all — if we all — tell our stories.”
Lots of questions for Carroll about the emptiness of Bergdorf's the evening of the alleged assault. Atty. Joe Tacopina asks if it was a long escalator ride w/ Trump to the 6th floor: “He was a big talker so the time went pretty quickly”
Long line of Qs re: why Carroll didn't scream in the moment. She points out that question is a reason why some women don't come forward: “You better have a good excuse why you didn’t scream”
Tacopina then proceeds to ask question after question about why Carroll didn't scream...
Carroll breaks for just a moment. In tears, voice raised: “I’m telling you he raped me whether I screamed or not.”
Tacopina asks if she needs a minute. “No. Go right on.”
EJC says a friend told her at the time not to report Trump because “he will bury you” with the power of “200 lawyers”
Now: “One of my biggest fears came absolutely true. He has two tables full of lawyers here today.”
That’s all for now, cross examination picks up Monday morning

It's been nearly four years since @ejeancarroll publicly accused Donald Trump of sexual assault. In a few minutes she'll take the stand to tell her story in federal court @CourthouseNews
@ejeancarroll@CourthouseNews Carroll: “Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he said it didn’t happen. He lied and shattered my reputation and I’m here to try to get my life back.”
Long pause after Carroll describes the attack in a Bergdorf Goodman fitting room, and her attorney asks what she did after Trump forced himself on her.
Then, through tears: “You ask me what I did in that moment. I always think back to why I walked in there.”
