A quick thumbnail: Carolyn falsely accused Till of catcalling. Roy & JW then kidnapped him, beat him (so badly his eye popped from its socket), killed him, anchored him w/barbed wire to a 75lb gin fan, & scuttled him in the Tallahatchie.

Roy & JW were arrested. Locals turned against them until Drew, MS became the national white supremacy poster child. Then Drew circled the wagons. W/in a month, the two were tried found not guilty by their peers.

Carolyn repeated her the lie during the trial. Timothy Tyson interviewed Bryant years later & says she recanted. The Carolyn & the Bryant family disagreed. There is no recording of her recantation, only Tyson's notes about what he later claims she said.

Milam: "We were never able to scare him. They had just filled him so full of that poison that he was hopeless."

"They took him in there and began 'whipping' him, first Milam then Bryant smashing him across the head with those .45's. . . . Milam got information out of German prisoners this way."

Milam made Till carry his anchor 2 the riverbank. Then Milam & Till "stood silently... just hating one another.
Milam: 'Take off your clothes.'
Slowly, [Till] pulled off his shoes, his socks. He stood up, unbuttoned his shirt, dropped his pants, his shorts.
He stood there naked."

After the Look interview, former friends who had contributed to Roy's & JW's defense funds, cut them off.

Milam finally got a loan but blacks refused to work for him whites stiffed him, forcing him to pay them higher wages.

Milam was later convicted of writing bad checks, assault and battery, using a stolen credit card.

Miram's son died (as an adult). He & his wife divorced. He died of spinal cancer, a rare, aggressive, severely debilitating, & incurable disease.

KARMA, the BRYANTS.

After their business collapsed and neighbors shunned them, they moved to TX. No dice; Tallahatchie County was done. Roy later saw & waved to an old MS resident. On hearing Roy's name, the person drove away w/o speaking.

Carolyn & Roy divorced & Roy was later convicted of welfare fraud.

Roy suffered from gradual go blindness, and lived in increasing hermitage & fear. Roy started denying he murdered Till. He was afraid of - ready? - being shot in the dark, so he kept his location secret.

The Bryants' children were ill & 2 died. One son died of complications from cystic fibrosis. Another died of heart failure. Their daughter was born deaf.

While this is almost de minimus in comparison to the human depravity they showered young Emmett with, it's not nothing. Karma never left them, and follows their living children even now.
