The @WhiteHouse press corps is under harsh scrutiny as never before — just as we prepare to gather, chummily, with @POTUS for the @whca#WHCA dinner tonight. Here is what I think, based on twenty-five years in the Washington media, and as a reporter who aspires to objectivity. —>
(contd) The @WhiteHouse press corps includes many, many fine and dedicated journalists. All of us have biases but many succeed at the critical business of identifying them and correcting for them in their work product. I like to think I do. —>
(contd) But beware the reporters, in and beyond the @WhiteHouse, who believe themselves to be innately without bias and fearless pursuers of The Truth; they are the most dangerous, and often the most biased. —>
(contd) The current @WhiteHouse disrespects the press corps in ways large and small on a daily basis, and tonight we will hear @POTUS serve up syrupy platitudes about his respect for us and the critical role we play in American democracy.
