We are going to explore what the D. stands for and what the Will of D. is.
I believe the letter D can stand for a lot of things, and we have all theorized about them: Desire, Dreams, Devil, Danger, Dawn, Don, Half moon, Road etc.
Since Wano and Egghead, the themes in the story always brought me back to something specific.
The Sun God reveal, Hanuman, the theme of Identity, Creation, Freedom, science, galaxy, stars etc.
All the themes led me to the conclusion the D might stand for a word that encapsulates almost all of these concepts in ONE PIECE and in real life.
That word is GOD, and the Will of D. is the Will of god.
By turning the world upside down, they have turned the word upside down and the letter D is at the end of the word, not the beginning.
We are going to discuss it in 5 steps.
1. Gods in One Piece and our world.
In the One Piece world :
Celestial dragons are calling themselves gods. (Present)
Lunarians were called gods (Past) - Chap 1023
Enel called himself a god (Present) - Skypiea Arc
There were 4 specific gods named in Skypiea (Past) - Chapt 287
In our world :
In monotheistic thought, God is usually viewed as the supreme being, creator, and principal object of faith. In non-monotheistic thought, a god is a spirit or being believed to control some part of the universe or life and often worshiped for doing so...
As we can see, both concepts are similar in both our and the One Piece world.
- The Celestial dragons "created" the world as we know today, and God is viewed as the supreme being "creator".
- Enel was controlling or believed to controll Skypiea and was worshipped for doing so.
2. The Bearers of the D.
Now that we have established the D stands for god, let's explore different characters with the letter D. and how they fit with different myths and legends about gods.
- The Monkey God Family.
Monkey goD Luffy
Monkey goD Garp
Monkey goD Dragon
A lot of us know the story of the Monkey god Hanuman or Sun Wukong by now. The Monkey god has a story with the Sun and creation. Monkey god Luffy makes sense and could give us clues about Luffy's dream
According to Valmiki's Ramayana, one morning in his childhood, Hanuman was hungry and saw the rising sun. Mistaking it for a fruit, he leapt up to eat it.
In some versions, Indra the King of "gods", struck Hanuman with a Thunderbolt. Chapter 1002
- Jaguar goD Saul
Keeping in mind his name in Japanese is Haguare, there are myths and tales about different Jaguar gods. The Jaguar god of the Underworld is without doubt one of the most important and also more enigmatic deities of the ancient maya. He is also linked to the Sun
- Marshall goD Teach.
Marshall comes from Mars (Roman Mythology), Martial, the God of War.
It could explain Blackbeard "Commodore" title and more.
An interesting fact here is that Tyr (also the god of war but in German Mythology) seems to have a lot in common with Shanks
Chapter 232, 2 chapters prior to Blackbeard's official reveal, This man in Mocketown was thanking the "God of Rhum" without knowing if he truly exists.
An interesting fact now that we know a Blackbeard Pirate has the Glug glug Fruit and would be the God of Rhum in the OP world
- Trafalgar goD Water Law.
As the name implies, Law might have more importance than we think if his name really is the Water god or the god water.
Could Law’s Family be related to IMU or even the man marked by flames ?
With the Submarine, the water theme with his crew, If Law is somehow related to IMU, it could explain the Scene in Punk Hazard where Robin talks about
treason, (as Imu's familly might have been the traitors). It could also give us some ideas about Law’s future role in the story.
Gol goD Roger and Rocks goD Xebec.
I will discuss these two together because both were able to create (remember gods create) an era or an age.
The Golden Era for Roger.
The Rocks Era for Rocks.
Both era are related to the real history in our world.
The term Golden Age comes from Greek mythology
The Stone Age (Stone can be Rock) was a broad prehistoric period during which stone was widely used to make stone tools.
In the history of our world, the Stone Age (Rocks age) was replaced by the Bronze age.
In the OP world, the Stone age (Rocks) was replaced by the Golden age. (Bronze and Gold, both being metals). Rocks being replaced by a metal (Gold and Bronze).
Made me think about the evolution of the human race and Dr. Vegapunk's speech were,he also mentionned god. Chapter 1069
Portgas goD Rouge and Portgas goD Ace*
The only references I’ve found from Portgas were related to «Porta » which could mean gate, entrance but also to carry or to bear, which made me think of Rouge and her story with Ace.
It could also be related to Ports as there are relevant
3. Enemies of the gods
The ones with the letter D in their names, are called enemies of the gods.
Knowing the full story now, It would make sense, there are not the enemies, but there are (were) the gods themselves
Just like we've seen between the
Celestial Dragons (Present) -Lunarian (Past),
Enel or Luffy (Present) - Skypiean gods (Past),
the word god has been given trough time and ages to different people with the ability or power to create or bring great changes.
4. The D will bring another storm
Like we have established, the gods are people with power and abilities. "Bringing a Storm" could be literal here (bringing a storm through their abilities. Ex : Monkey D. Dragon)
It could also mean being able to bring or create great changes.
5. Conclusion
I believe the D were people with different and great abilities. People with the desire and the will to always do what they want at any cost and they were seen as gods.
If you made it this far, Thank you for reading. Chase your dreams 🙏🏾

Luffy’s dream is to become… A FISH! Theory (Thread)
#ONEPIECE #ONEPIECE1089
While we have many great theories about Luffy's dream, I would like to explore another fun (maybe) possibility.
I believe Luffy wants to become a fish or fishman, to do a world tour swimming, and we are going to look at details in five specific chapters, so let’s dive into it
Chapter 1 : Can't swim! Luffy the anchor.
To help us understand this theory a little better, I think we can start by asking ourselves what was Luffy known for in the start of One Piece? What is a Pirate and the lifestyle of a Pirate?
