Today @SafeguardDefend latest report out, #TRAPPED, on China's changing and quickly growing use of #ExitBans. Summary below.

safeguarddefenders.com/en/blog/new-re… Image
@SafeguardDefend With the new revised Counter Espionage Law, there are now 15 laws, and numerous regulations, that can be used to issue #ExitBans. Many of them from over the last five years. Image
@SafeguardDefend Exact numbers are hard to come by, but data that do exist points towards an eight-fold increase from 2016 to 2022, especially during XJP's second mandate period. Image
@SafeguardDefend As with #HouseArrests (see our #HomeAsPrison report), the *lawful* use of #ExitBans is complemented with entirely illegal use, with no process or legal basis. Which is the most common form is impossible to say, but the latter is rampant. Image
@SafeguardDefend Now even non-judicial bodies can issue #ExitBans and in some cases without having to justify it at all. Many are not even informed of its existence until they try to leave. Image

(thread) Some key takeaway from the breaking news on Ofcom's conviction of Chinese CGTN TV-news, out of the 20 page final decision documents:
(1)In a stunning misstep, CGTN incriminated itself by providing proof that the recording was coerced, by providing a note supposedly written by Humphrey and shown, by Police, to CGTN, that said he was only doing it for a more lenient punishment
(2)This was taken note of, repeatedly, by Ofcom as proof of the coerced nature. It also showed the collusion between CGTN and Chinese police, after CGTN has repeatedly denied that, because:

(1) A resolution by EU parliament @Europarl_EN condemning one of the world's worst human rights atrocities - placement of million(s) into concentration camps - would seem easy, no? Below are all of the 18 MEP's that voted no, with twitter names.
(2) Lead country to oppose is Spain (!), with mostly left-leaning MEPs voting no. @MarinaAlbiol @Caninator @palomalopezB @AngelaVallina
(3) The Dutch made a strong showing of no as well, with @AndreElissen @joao_ferreira33 @OlafStuger and auke.zijlstra@europarl.europa.eu
