I don’t know if war “changes” you, but it definitely highlights the traits that were already there.

Before the Great war, I’d never seen such heroism, and I’d never witnessed so many people and institutions being absolutely useless and pathetic.

Painfully eye-opening.
After you aren’t heard for years,

what happens next is not necessarily that people start listening.

The next step is that (for the most part), you turn into a target.
At that point,

your whole country turns into a target.

The most sadistic traits suddenly come out - in the societies that seemed civilised.

Reading @TomGiuretis's tweet I remembered how we went to a bomb shelter in the best city in Ukraine

(and arguably, in the whole world - according to the local residents).
And here is what we witnessed there.

Virtually every fake narrative that russians spread about Ukrainian politics comes from how they see the state power.

They simply don’t understand the concept of a political system where “the President” is NOT a euphemism for “a Tsar” 🤌
This is also a reason why “anti-war” russians tend to glorify Navalny despite his fascist views.

Putin, Navalny, doesn’t matter.

There HAS to be a tsar. They need one.

Not because they love him. But every time things go south, they can blame it on him and avoid accountability.
