Today’s the premiere of season 3 of #TheOtherTwo , the 1st season of TV I ever wrote on. I’m also on strike & picketing with the #wga. Why?? cause TOT is the ONLY show I’ve written on. “But how Dylan, ur hawt and talented af”. I KNOW. But lemme explain how size is important. 🧵/1

There’s this thing called a “mini-room” it’s a teeny tiny lil’ room where a small handful of writers get together for a very teeny tiny amount of time to make very big multimillion $$ shows. mini-rooms were designed to save bigwigs some cash, less writers less time less money. /2

It also means less opportunity for all writers but especially “low-level” writers like moiself who are new to tv. Because mini-rooms often cut out entry level spots. Why would they hire lil’ dyl-from-one-show when they can get a more seasoned multi-Emmy producer? They won’t. /3

Chic cute example: I was at the finish line to write on a new horror/comedy that I was sooooo excited about- but before any real offer came in, the budget wasn’t approved to hire at my level. And so *poof* went that gig. This is happening 👏🏽 all 👏🏽the 👏🏽time. /4

What this means is that writers are having a hard moving from staff writer toward producer level (which is where the real $$ starts, and where you get that on-set experience you need to advance your career) & so we are stuck in low-level limbo cause we can’t get staffed. /5

we can’t move up the ladder so we are losing opportunity for our own work. I’m a queer Latine writer, I write genre comedy about that life. I took out a show that got passed on because networks “didn’t want to take the risk”. But would it have been a risk if I was more senior? /6

The inability to get consistently staffed is destroying on our ability to create (and sell!!) our own work. And if we can’t get our stories made, who will tell them? The answer is nobody…or worse, a robot. /7

to the left is what we asked for to help continue getting writers up that ladder and to make sure rooms stay full and not itty bitty, and to the right is their response. So yeah, we’re striking 8/8
