The department fined the three companies a total of $212,000.
Investigators said a company that runs 10 McDonald’s #restaurants in Louisville, employed 24 minors under the age of 16 and made them work longer hours than legally allowed, and the two children received little or no pay.
“Below the minimum age for employment, they prepared and distributed food orders, cleaned the store, worked at the drive-thru window and operated a register,” the Labor Department said on May 2.
Additionally, one child was allowed to operate a deep fryer, which is prohibited for workers under 16.
The Louisville franchise owner, Sean Bauer, said that the two 10-year-olds cited in the investigation were visiting their parent, a night manager, and were not employees.
McDonald’s USA stated that the incidents were “unacceptable” and “deeply troubling” and go against the company’s ” high expectations” it has for its brand. #McDonald
