A belated b-day wish to Ronan who would have turned 16 yesterday but died from Neuroblastoma cancer in 2011.
2/ 23
He was just 3, about to turn 4. Ronan was that boy with the glint in his eye & intelligence beyond his years. The boy whose love of family as well as mischief, captured the hearts of all who knew him.
3/ 23
Ronan is the boy whose cancer journey, was told by his mom via a blog that ultimately Taylor Swift read, then wrote a song about, using Maya’s words… Ronan Taylor’s version can be heard here 👇 music.apple.com/us/album/ronan…
4/ 23
My wish for you, Ronan is that, somehow, someway, you sense and feel all this love from your family, the friends of your family and perfect strangers who want to live as you did. Wild. Free. with the strength and courage of a 100 men and w boundless love.
5/ 23
There are so many layers to his loss, I imagine.
The everyday missing of him by his family & their friends. But it’s the future life not lived and without witness that really hurts. We know he would have been a stand-out/ stand-up human w a terribly bright future.
6/ 23
So it is the pain of missing school plays, Xmas mornings, summer vacations, swing sets & merry-go-rounds, first crushes, prom dates & school trouble (good, mischievous trouble)
7/ 23
Drivers license tests, Graduation Day, College drop-offs, marriage and children (???) …Just the mystery of not knowing and experiencing exactly how he’d live those milestones in his signature way, haunts.
8/ 23
Maya is one of the strongest ppl I have ever met. It’s evident in the way she channels her grief into purpose. It’s her actions through pain & loss that I find so remarkable. If I were in her shoes, I don’t know that I would/ could or want to carry-on after losing my child
9/ 23
Every moment Maya is living her truth fully, unabashedly, without apology nor self-consciousness. This method of being is not only courageous, it has also drawn people to her like a moth to a flame.
10/ 23
Legions of other grieving mothers, empathetic followers and young, sweet #swifties know Ronan’s name and story because of her willingness to write about it. It’s astounding to see how her style of writing resonates w so many.
11/ 23
Via Maya’s commitment to finding a cure for childhood cancers, (the leading cause of death among children behind guns. -Ew. And the least funded cancer by our gov’t. -Wtf?) she’s built a legacy for Ronan that will live-on beyond all our lifetimes.
12/ 23
Younger generations will know Ronan’s name, his fight, his eyes, his spirit because of her.
13/ 23
Cuz of Maya’s willingness, again, to SAY IT ALL and so honesty, so compellingly…I believe a cure is possible. She and her supporters (🙋🏻♀️) will cont. to advocate for better treatments, and more Gov’t funding for families living w cancer.
Isn’t that amazing?!
14/ 23
Maya works tirelessly w a team of the best researchers go find a cure, she provides comfort to other grieving mothers who feel the same feels she does but lack the words. She provided them. Her pain is their pain. And there is comfort in that. She’s a safe place.
15/23
Maya educates family members & friends who really know not what to say to the grieving. Oftentimes family or friends fumble their words and lean into insensitive catch phrases they’ve heard before like, “They’re in a better place.”Unwittingly causing more harm than comfort
16/ 23
Maya is blazing a trail to reframe the current, popular & inaccurate belief systems around “the stages of grief” via her forthcoming book. - I cannot wait to read. Are you following her on social media? Reading her blog?- @mamamaya@rockstarronan

Maya’s created a community of young and old. Who does that? Who else is this soft spoken yet thunderously steps into her darkness with which she is intimately familiar? Maya. Because of Ronan. Oh, the power of love!

The unpaid labor that actors do to prepare scenes 4 a job is rarely discussed here.
Post covid, the audition labor + expense threshold has 10 folded. No longer just memorizing multiple scenes, (usually 3 +be off book, cuz it’s better) but now: light, edit,& sound-mix too.
Let’s discuss finding a “reader”.
It would be great if all had friends available to “read” w you but it’s not realistic for all to have a relatable person for every audition. Hence the importance of in person casting.
I have the “privilege” to pay a coach to read with me.
What happens when actors who are starting out can’t pay? Or just actors who can’t afford to pay a reader? -The audition quality suffers and is apparent. this hurts the chances of an actor seeking work.
An economic disparity should not play a part in the casting process.
