In Feb 2023, #GujaratFluorochemicals management stated their products are PFAS free PFAS
So what are PFAS and why are these important to the co?

PFAS stands for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances, a big long word that scientists use to talk about a group of chemicals that can be found in some things like food packaging, non-stick pans, and some types of clothing.
Why are PFAS chemicals infamous? PFAS
Ok so PFAS chemicals are harmful to mortals like all of us. What are governments and organizations doing to fix this? PFAS
The European proposal, if it stands unchanged, would spell the eventual end for common fluoropolymers like PTFE and PVDF. “They are absolutely in the scope of the current European definition of PFAS", says Amber Wellman, director of sustainability for Chemours.
But regulators shouldn’t be targeting the fluoropolymers themselves, she says. “They’re inert. They’re high-molecular-weight polymers. They’re not mobile. They’re not bioavailable. They don’t bioaccumulate.” Bio accumulative
Which are the companies that are walking away from the business because they are unable to make PFAS free substances?

3M is one. Others may follow suit. PTFE PFAS
Can we live without PFAS free fluoropolymers?

Looks difficult.

Fluoropolymer makers have been able to find nonfluorinated surfactants to produce polyvinylidene fluoride PVDF, but a substitute for the more heavily fluorinated polytetrafluoroethylene PTFE has proved more elusive
One of the applications where PTFE is used in non stick cookware, popularly known as Teflon coating
While I don't fully trust ChatGPT, it helps my lazy bones and gives me the info I quickly need.
Ever since fluoropolymers were introduced, in the middle of the 20th century, making many of them has required using fluorosurfactants. These processing aids are critical to the emulsion polymerization process, in which a polymer is built in water from fluorinated monomers. Image
What's in it for us?

In Gujarat Fluorochemicals' Feb 2023 concall, they said they have been able to make PFAS free chemicals that are used in some of the critical applications mentioned above. Image
In May 2023, they said 80% of all products they had been shipping were PFAS free. Image
What is important about 3M's exit?

Hang on. Why did 3M exit the business?

Because they were litigated to the tune of $40 Billion for producing PFAS chemicals.
3M's total fluoropolymer 2022 revenues were $1.3 Billion.

GFL TTM revenues for all their division put together - $0.7 Billion. And 3M is the only player that has decided to exit the business.

This shows us the scale of opportunity GFL could be staring at.

In our previous discussions, we discussed the next gen promoters' plans to unlock value in Sandur Manganese.

These plans include:

1. Increasing iron ore production.
2. Implementing beneficiation techniques.
3. Introducing pelletization processes.

Lets move to other aspects of this business now.

In 2017, the co. also had set up a 4 Lac tonne Coke oven plant, in order to use Coke as a raw material to manufacture steel. Image
So what is Coke?

Coking coal is a special kind of coal that is used to make "coke". Image

In our thread on #Dreamfolks, we highlighted the vulnerability of the company's dependency on banks as the weakest link in the chain.

The following thread presents our interpretation of the current situation, which may change suddenly / over time.

Our goal: provide unbiased coverage of both bullish & bearish viewpoints on #Dreamfolks

Investing situations are rarely clear-cut, so we explore different mental models & vantage points.

On vantage points - Must read brilliant blog post by Prof. Bakshi: fundooprofessor.wordpress.com/2011/04/24/van…
In the latest quarter, Dreamfolks reported a significant decline in their profits owing to a couple of reasons.

Lets try to deep dive into each of those reasons. Image

In the 1st thread on #SandurManganese we covered

1. Mining and Iron ore export bans in India
2. Ethical culture at the co.
3. Next gen management driving growth
4. Iron Ore Expansion approval status
5. High return ratios in mining
6. Founders

For the last 3 years, Sandur has been maxing out its 16 Lac Ton (1.6 MTPA) iron ore capacity.

And now, they have obtained an approval for expansion. Image
Despite its expansion plans, Sandur still remains a small player in the global iron ore mining scene.

But that just means there's plenty of untapped potential for future growth.

Here's a pic that shows how much iron ore the world mined in 2019. Image

Thread on Neodymium Magnets

#PermanentMagnets

On the 10th of May, Permanent Magnets entered into a non-binding MoU with Quadrant International for a project to manufacture Neodymium Magnets and Assemblies in India #PermanentMagnets #ElectricVehicles #SmartMeters #EV Permanent Magnets Electric Vehicles EV Smart Meters Neodymium Magnets Rare Earth Tesla
What are Neodymium Magnets?

Neodymium magnets (NdFeB) primarily use rare earth element neodymium, along with other elements such as iron and boron, to create their strong magnetic properties. #PermanentMagnets #ElectricVehicles #SmartMeters #EV Permanent Magnets Electric Vehicles EV Smart Meters Neodymium Magnets Rare Earth Tesla
Rare earth elements are special chemicals used in magnets and electronics. They're not really rare, but hard to extract and refine due to their low concentration in nature. #PermanentMagnets #ElectricVehicles #SmartMeters #EV Permanent Magnets Electric Vehicles EV Smart Meters Neodymium Magnets Rare Earth Tesla
