Obedience in the Face of Mocking!

Has the Lord asked you to do something, or shown you something, yet you are mocked or ridiculed because of it?

Today the Lord reminded me about Noah! Because evil was so widespread upon the earth, He had determined to destroy all flesh!

Genesis 6:6-7
And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air.

But God looked and one man found favor in His eyes — Noah! He was just and perfect and walked with God!

Genesis 6:8-9
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord…Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

The Lord told Noah what He was going to do, and He asked him to do something! Something that in the eyes of everyone who saw him would look ridiculous!

Genesis 6:13-14
And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before Me;

For the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood.

Do you know there is no mention of rain before this in God’s Word!

The earth was watered by a mist that rose up from the ground.

Gen. 2:5-6
And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

Although the Word doesn’t say so, I would imagine that Noah was laughed at, mocked, and ridiculed when they saw what he was doing, and heard his account of what was coming!

He must have had days where he asked God, is this really necessary, Lord?

But this mocking and his own doubts didn’t stop Noah, and it shouldn’t stop us either! He did exactly as the Lord asked him!

Genesis 6:22
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

Noah is listed in what’s been called, the ‘Hall of Fame’ of those faithful to God!

Hebrews 11:7
By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house.

Jesus was sent by God to offer Himself as a sacrifice for our sin. He was mocked, beaten, and crucified!

But He didn’t stop speaking! He endured to the end!

Mark 15:20
And when they had mocked Him, they took off the purple from Him, and put His own clothes on Him, and led him out to crucify Him.

We are told to look to Him for our example, so we too may endure whatever we face in this life because of our obedience to God!

Hebrews 12:2-4
Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame,

And is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

Beloved, are you like myself weary with the task you believe God has given you? Are you being mocked and ridiculed?

If you’re predicting rain so to speak, and no rain is coming; or if you’re theoretically building an ark one and a half times the size of a football field and filling it with animals, and the world thinks you’re crazy! Remember Noah!

Remember your Savior, Jesus! Keep on doing what He’s told you to do!

We aren’t here to please people, or worry about how we look! We are here to please and be obedient to Him, even in the midst of ridicule, or our own doubts!

So let the world laugh at us! One day we will hear the Words we long for, “Well done good and faithful servant”!

Matthew 25:23
His Lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of Thy Lord.
