Since buying Twitter, Musk has reinstated neo-Nazis, antisemites like David Icke, & countless white nationalists. All while suspending journalists & anti-fascists.
Now he goes after George Soros (again). This time with the trope of a rich Jew trying to destroy civilization.
This is not the first time Musk has spread antisemitic tropes. As someone enmeshed in the far right ecosystem, it’s basically impossible for him to avoid using them. And he clearly relishes in spreading them.
1. For the record, these people are doing it for the hate clicks. They’ve been doing this for years.
2. The idea that people with an audience shouldn’t be called out for endangering trans people is a form of bigotry. If they did the same to Jews, I’d want a similar call out.
3. This is one of many examples of how bigots with an audience get others to sympathize with their bigotry by pointing to the backlash and calling themselves victims.
Others with an audience get scared, don’t realize there are actual victims, and join in supporting them.
4. The dynamic here is this: The people coming to Singal’s defense don’t see the safety of trans people as important. They see it as optional at best.
But they do see solidarity with other white cis men who receive backlash for bigotry as important. Because they’re selfish.
“Conservatives who care about child abuse should be protesting outside of churches, not drag shows!”
Yes, but also this displays a fundamental misunderstanding. They’re not misguided hypocrites.
They aren’t trying to protect kids. They *are* the abusers.
They phrase abuse as protection because it’s their way of justifying what is essentially control.
Look at Matt Walsh: he talks about protecting children constantly, but also says he’d rather die than have a trans kid.
He thinks love is total control over his kids.
I used to live in a community where conversion therapy was seen as a sign of love. Even when reports exposed these places as dens of abuse (not to mention ineffective), they were touted as places to lovingly send queer children.
I am blessed enough to have gotten to know @LucBernard thanks to this app. I remember when I first heard he was building a Holocaust-themed video game I… was confused how he could pull it off.
But I saw it up close, and it’s truly a work of genius.
The simple fact is that there are young people being radicalized every day on video game platforms. Luc, who is giving his game away for free, is a visionary.
He understands that you can’t just sit back: this is urgent, and it requires actual solutions.
We have had Holocaust movies for ages. Generally no one bats an eye or thinks it’s tasteless: they see the merit.
Video games are the *most* popular form of entertainment, surpassing movies and music. They made five times more than movies in 2022.
