📍Located near Jehanabad, about 24 km from Gaya, the Barabar and Nagarjuni hills house caves hewn from solid granite — perfectly polished and geometrically precise.
They are the earliest surviving rock-cut sanctuaries of India.

👑 These caves were created under Emperor Ashoka (273–232 BCE) & his grandson Dasharatha Maurya,who dedicated them to the Ajivika sect, a contemporary ascetic movement alongside Buddhism and Jainism.

Ashoka’s inscriptions here reflect his tolerance and spiritual pluralism.

You've probably seen these two photos countless times.

One shows a man in saffron headgear wielding an iron rod. The other shows a terrified man pleading with folded hands.

They became the face of

But here’s the actual context 👇

The man with the rod was Ravinder Parmar, a poor cobbler from Ahmedabad.

The other was Qutbuddin Ansari, a resident caught in the riot-affected Naroda Patiya area.

Their photos were used to

depict a clear narrative: Hindus attacking Mooslims. But the reality wasn’t so black and white.

Ravinder Parmar hadn’t harmed anyone.

He had grown a beard after personal heartbreak and wore saffron to avoid being mistaken for a Mooslim during the volatile riots.
