🚨Important update on @ucu fighting fund!🚨

An email has gone to branches detailing changes to the @ucu FF. Unfortunately it still contains errors & doesn't reflect what has been voted for by NEC. An all member email has gone out today which also looks to be incorrect 🧵

1/
Before addressing this, pls sign & share this open letter detailing the NEC motion on extending the fighting fund. We need this implementing *now*. The MAB has started & members need to know exactly what they can claim for:

2/
The scheme proposed in the latest HQ email is ambiguous but seems to suggest that members can now claim for:
▶️20 days *in total* for strike/MAB deductions (this is against policy)
▶️But you can only claim for MAB if you're facing 100% deductions (this is against policy)

3/
▶️New scheme applies from 1 May. Unclear if the prv limit of 11 days still applies to deductions prior to 1 May
▶️Full amount mandated by NEC will now be transfered into the fighting fund (in line with policy)
▶️Prv daily caps (£50/£75) still apply (in line with policy)

4/
The email once again goes against @ucu policy. Members taking part in disputes are entitled under the rules of the union to claim for:
💫20 days of strike deductions
💫10 days of ASOS deductions, *including* partial deductions on pro-rata basis

See bit.ly/UCUFF2023 5/
The branch officer email also seems to contain misinformation on how this decision was reached. The email claims that "HE Officers" have decided on this new scheme. I've had various confirmations that officers were *NOT* invited to any meeting & no meeting took place.

6/
It is also not a HE decision. As per the rules of the union only *full* NEC or *full* congress can make funding decisions as such decisions affect all sectors & all members. It's not a HEC decision & certainly not an HE officer's decision.

See 31.1 ucu.org.uk/media/12946/UC…

7/
Any member should be entitled to claim in full for the amounts approved by NEC until such time as there is a properly made democratic decision to the contrary. This is what democracy looks like.

8/
@DrJoGrady @ucu if you don't like the rules or democratic structures of the union then please seek to change them. Don't just drag them through the mud.
