🚨 URGENT: Say NO to I55 lane bill! It will ⬆️climate+diesel emissions in Little Village, Pilsen, Chinatown, McKinley Park, Brighton Park, Archer Heights +more who deserve clean air! Call your Senators: NO to HJR23. #CleanAirNow#ProtectOurCommunities#NoToI55Emissions#twill 🧵
ACT NOW: Call Senators at their Springfield offices:
NO to HJR23. This bill would allow IDOT to enact a public private partnership to fund a massive construction project on I-55 impacting communities with some of the worst air quality in the state and the lifetime health consequences to show for it.
Imagine this: Unfriendly private neighborhood industrial polluters, lining up to fund I55 lanes bc they've all been dreaming about running more semi trucks in Black and brown communities already pummeled w dirty air. #CleanAirNow#ProtectOurCommunities#NoToI55Emissions#twill
Imagine this: MAT Asphalt in McKinley Park and Reliable Asphalt in Little Village and asphalt producers around Chicago THRILLED to supply asphalt and diesel traffic to I55 lanes. HJR23 undermines everything Chicago EJ communities are working for to improve quality of life. NOPE.
🚨🚨🚨UPDATE: The I-55 expansion resolution has been included in the Senate's omnibus procurement bill as a broad expansion of private-public funding, which is being heard at 5:30 in Exec Committee. Please go here and file a slip opposing SFA#2 to HB 2878: my.ilga.gov/WitnessSlip/Cr…
🚨UPDATE: The Senate took a bad idea (HJR23) & made it worse! Tonight, they passed #HB2878 to give broad permission for public-private funding of large transportation projects, like I-55 widening, & excluded regional planning completely.
