I think part of the reason that ML/M has difficulty catching on in the US is that Americans regardless of origin are at root a rebellious and anarchistic people. Democratic centralism, central committees, etc. aren’t our thing, we prefer loose structures and hate orders.
if a DC decision is taken and an American disagrees with it they are more likely to be like “fuck it imma do what I want” than abide by it. Our heroes are rebels, cowboys and outlaws and bandits and d-boys who say fuck rules and authority.
I think the Cultural Revolution aspect of Maoism is something Americans can appreciate. Like we’re never gonna have a Stalin type or another “great leader” in power, Americans don’t go for that type of thing.
I think MLM as successfully applied to the US will have a very strong strain of decentralization/anarchist influence running through it. Americans don’t like what can be perceived as “authoritarianism” or impingements on their freedoms —
this will be good in preventing the rise of a bourgeoisie from within the Party.

Communists can and should join the struggle for reforms and economic concessions for workers. Communists should defend the democratic rights of the people from reactionary attacks like we’ve seen in Florida. Things such as Medicare for all are progressive demands.
The fact that many Democrats who were elected as progressives are stabbing the people who sent them to Congress in the back is a good propaganda opportunity against *reformism* but nowhere is it written that Communists should not fight for reforms and concessions.
We aren’t currently in a revolutionary situation, the broadest masses are not ready for it and we have to meet them where they are and patiently develop their consciousness. If the most advanced are on the field of demanding reform, then we meet them there
people have dogmatic views on class because they haven’t been around the masses who work at McDonald’s and sell weed, boost shit or do hair on the side. you can be proletarian and engage in part time lumpen/etc. activity as well, most people have to do this to survive.
Consciousness is important. With which class do people identify and are they willing to organize with others in that class? Do they see themselves as part of a class at all? Do they have aspirations of maybe opening their own salon or something in the future?
All these factors influence the likelihood of someone developing organizationally and politically into a Communist. If you see the working class as being something you’re embarrassed to belong to and think they’re a bunch of losers, you’re not gonna care about organizing it.
One of the main reasons I’m not an anarchist is because in a destroyed settler colonial country we have to have a transition state. Think for a second. The majority of settlers in this country will violently react to a conquest of power by Communists.
Especially a nonwhite vanguard. They’re going to grab their guns and start doing bad things, and to prevent a Yugoslavia scenario requires a firm hand and a firm state to provide re-education, deal with enemies of the people, and rebuild destroyed infrastructure.
Simply removing all settlers or redacting them won’t work because many have been here for 100+ years and we can’t force Europe to take them, and we aren’t mass murderers, so we’re kinda stuck with them. There has to be an intermediary structure to prevent horrible things.
Black people who are otherwise progressive think communism is white folks’ shit because white communists be saying racist shit, even towards Black communists. Ain’t nobody gonna back your ideology if they think you’re just gonna be the police with a red armband lol
Plus the fact that many view white theoreticians with near religious reverence is akin to replacing white Jesus with white Marx which has colonial overtones
Or if they aren’t being blatantly racist (the recent debacle around drug users comes to mind) they’re downplaying contributions by Black theoreticians, either refusing to study them or just blowing them off as whatever “-ist” they can summon up
