Watched it thrice, 1st tym just 2 watch, 2nd tym to understand. Then read all d theories & finally a 3rd tym to c which of those theories stick n which don't. So here's goes my interpretation.

Ok so let's lay out the pattern. The film is a mix of reality, delusions & d script. The cues to figure out which is which

1. Neck bird Tattoo on Sam: This Tattoo appears during scenes not part of script (reality) and disappears during both hallucinations n scenes 4m script.

So let's start with the psychiatrist who gives her the pills (Red pills Blue pills is 4m Matrix n chk out what it means) Red pills basically bring u back to reality while the lack of takin it (blue pill) keeps u in simulated reality (script/hallucination) & Doc gives her Red pill

The Doc says u ve been in extreme trauma and v need to shut ur mind from K. Stay away from ppl/places/things that remind u of K. So K is a real person who existed, not entirely an imagination. Also notice how she has neck tattoo during doc scene n then cycle riding

The very 1st thing she picks up 2 get rid of his memory s d script. 2nd cue, Cactus. Cactus is dry in reality, in hallucinations/script it's green. This scene when Sam s getting rid of things, it's dry cactus till she hears the calling bell n changes 2 green when K's sis comes in

These r hallucinatory trips in which Sam believes K survived the accident and that she has a chance to see him again n remind him of their shared memories. Notice no neck tattoos here.

SO THE THEORY: K is real, their relationship is real (probably 6 months). The breakup is real too and then K died in an accident. So she now suffers from the guilt of doin a mistake which lead to a breakup & forever traumatized coz she cud never see him again to repair it.

K's sister, K's doctor and memory-loss K all of em part of Sam's hallucinations. But the memories is real. Now on to the next reveal, Sam is the filmmaker and not K. She is the one writing the script and it's not K's script. Chk out the clapboard at Sam's place to the left

So Sam is the aspiring filmmaker. Chk out how the letter "I" from Sam's note is the same as "I" from the script notes.

So Sam and K never met as junior artists, it's all part of Sam's script and the the scenes that follow including the intense orgasm scene are all part of the script. I feel the happy moments including the laughing scenes stretch are real and 2 other moments which follows.

Before that, so the josiyakari scene again is part of the script and it's the doc herself as Josiyakari coz she knows that K is not alive and that they have no chances of getting together.

Ok d two moments I feel real is the one where K & Sam discuss abt Thursday at home & hw they wish Thursday comes in d next line like in books. U can see d dry cactus here too while it's green cactus most other times. This Thursday theory is what she later incorporates in script

Chk out the sound when she locks up her home, u can hear Margazhi month bajanai sounds in the background meaning December. From the whatsapp chats u know they first met during June/July. So this is that actual 6 month period of relationship after which they breakup

The 2nd real moment is this "crying" breakup one where K says whatever Sam did is unforgivable 4 him. What cud have she possibly done, cheatin?! Same scene happens in script where she confesses cheatin but K says it's no big deal which is what Sam wants but in reality he broke up

Other references to "cheating" in the film and how Sam says "I may be many things but never a cheat" in the end convo when handing over the script to imaginary K is how she copes up that she actually did cheat and not confronting it

Chk out this scene when she hands out the script to imaginary K, there's no neck tattoos first and it suddenly appears when she takes out the script. As I said neck tattoo is out of script moments. She can't b there in the script which she's having in hand

So b4 we head to the ending, one other moment to notice. Sry naanum konjam non-linear aa thaan kadhai solran coz there's too much to cover. One other moment where the dry cactus shows is when Sam gets Voice Note from Psychiatrist saying she ain't taking pills

And so finally the ending where Sam gets a phone call from her psychiatrist saying she met K. Her rxns confirm there's no K & no rain. There's neck tattoo here too. Then the rain ending where they get back together is the happy ending of script while in reality she's alone.

The very final scene when she locks the door, there's no rain, she's dry, neck tatto is there (no neck tattoo when she was hugging K seconds b4) and the dry cactus is present. So the reality is she's alone.

2 other references to say that Sam is d protagonist here not K who's more in love with him that she's goin through so much 2 keep their memories alive by makin a film (script) & hallucinatin moments of seein him. The supposed Toilet paper note 4m K to Sam is actually 4m Sam to K.

Two other instances where they say Sam n K is not two ppl but one. Every time after Sex, Sam lights up two cigarettes n passes one to him. Also K mimicking a girl voice in bathroom is all references that K here is Sam n she's role-playing both characters in her mind. I

Infact in the very first opening scene, when she lights up the cigarette. Closeup shows it as one till she takes another one from her mouth to pass it over to K.

Alternate Theory: This theory is a fun one, not to be taken seriously n possible along with d above. TK probably did to tease audience. Sam is an alien. Her home reminds u of Settu ponnu home from SD. There's a telescope at home too. The way she speaks "Human beings, creatures".

Notice how she asks "Unga naattu prime Minister per enna" and not namma naatu and also the spotting of UFO in line with Super Deluxe.

Some other throwaway references like 2000 பூனைகள், Stark Industries, Mallu Uncut, Vazhvin Ragasiyam and Pogi supposed guy she cheated on in the script is irl poster designer Gopi Prasanna's pet name for his close ones.

BTW the T shirts "Man or a butterfly" and the second one "You look the more you see" Cheeky 😂

I think this disclaimer is obvious but still here goes: As TK himself said, he has constructed a house with 1000 doors to d past (cinema) n has hidden the keys there in itself. How many keys do u find that many doors can u open. Some may open 5, some 10, some more......

.... Ur perception of it can and shud vary depending upon ur understanding of it. This is just MY interpretation and not THE interpretation. End of the day, again as TK wud say "Neenga enna purinjukreengalo athan sir padam" ❤️

So the meeting and the orgasm scene all happened once. Also in their very 1st meetup as junior artist u can see K mentioning his heroine meeting doc and all. This is coz it's Sam's script n she has written it this way. Scripts r written by filmmakers by mixing reality wid fiction

So Sam is writing this script when she herself is meeting the psychiatrist (doc). So, no wonder she has incorporated this in the script itself as K Sayin. While some of this did happen fr what we see is still scenes 4m script. This meta nature is referenced in the movie too as 👇

And this particular frame after the "crying" breakup with the Ouroboros symbol which is a snake eatin it's own tail. Meaning there is no beginning or end, it's cyclical, the eternal circle of destruction n rebirth. Stressin on the film's themes of existence n what's even reality.

Film is too structured in a way u ll never know when the reality ended and fiction began in both the script n her life. It's so intertwined and all of these elements (reality/script/hallucination) seem to feed off each other n keep each other alive with no beginning or end.
