He Understands!

How could it be that Jesus, the Son of God, the second member of the Trinity, could have a need to learn obedience?

Hebrews 5:8-9
Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered;

And being made perfect, He became the Author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.

He was after all God, yet He became a man!

Fully God, and fully man, in order that He might take on our sins, being fully tested in all ways, yet without sin!

Hebrews 4:14-16
Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;

But was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

He was tempted in every way, but He did not sin!

Yes, Jesus was God, but He emptied Himself, & left heaven to die for our sins, & to show us how to live, how to resist temptation!

Philippians 2:5-8
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal w/God:

But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

If the Son of God learned obedience through suffering, so must those who follow Him!

This is an important distinction, notice that the Word says that Jesus was led OF the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil!

Matthew 4:1
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

But, when His forty days and nights of temptation were completed, notice what the Word says! He returned IN the power of the Holy Spirit!

Luke 4:14
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of Him through all the region round about.

All testing and trial is used by God to perfect us, and to empower us!

1 Peter 5:10
But the God of all grace, Who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Even Jesus as we read above being found in the form of man was perfected through His sufferings! Let’s read that part again!

“And being made perfect, He became the Author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him.”

Philippians 3:10,12-14
That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death;

[12] Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Beloved, if you are suffering today, if you are being tempted and tried, know that it is for His good purposes in your life!

I can truly say that my times of greatest spiritual growth have been attained through my times of greatest trial!

I too came out of that testing in the power of the Holy Spirit, and so can you!
