It's interesting that the BBC considers itself so superior to independent media sources when it comes to stuff like misinformation and influence peddling given their own sordid history ...

For decades the BBC colluded with the secret services to blacklist left-leaning figures from BBC jobs to create a strong pro-capitalism, pro-establishment bias at the BBC, whilst publicly denying that that's what they were up to.

The BBC repeatedly used their world service broadcasts for propaganda purposes, like in 1953 when BBC Persia colluded with coup plotters in Iran to overthrow the democratically elected Mossadeq government to bring in the brutal and repressive dictatorship of the Shah.

In 1984 BBC News famously reversed the footage at Orgreave to make it look like the striking miners attacked the police first, when it was actually the police that violently charged the miners. No apology was ever made for this egregious deception.

Anyone who watches BBC politics shows or listens to Radio 4 on a regular basis will depressingly familiar with the frustration and rage that's provoked when BBC journalists allow the most egregious lies and deceptions to go completely unchallenged.

It's absurd that the BBC think that they have any moral authority to sit in judgement over others on fake news, or to smear independent media with insinuations of bias, dodgy funding, foreign interference, or misinformation-peddling.

Of course the BBC creates a lot of really good drama, popular science, and entertainment shows, but when it comes to news and politics, they're clearly just the propaganda arm of the Westminster establishment, with a long track record of bias and misinformation-peddling.

If the BBC was really interested in combating false information, perhaps they should come clean about their own sordid history, and get their own house in order first?
