Kiev officials & Samantha @PowerUSAID are in DC celebrating how the Ukraine war kicked off a “new age” of “e-governance.” Alongside the Executive Chairman of Visa, they are openly describing the sacrifice of Ukrainian civilians on the altar of Western finance & tech:
This event is dedicated to promoting Diia, Ukraine’s “state in a smartphone” that digitizes med records, banking, biometric data, and all aspects of life into a singular app. Kiev official @FedorovMykhailo thanks US taxpayers for serving as the first social investors of Diia
Host @karaswisher jokes that AI is going to destroy humanity, then complains the US public will never accept an app like Diia. @PowerUSAID reveals Estonia, Zanzibar, and Colombia are launching similar “e-gov” apps alongside USAID. Google & Visa & UK gov are also Diia sponsors
@PowerUSAID declares “something remarkable is happening in Ukraine as we speak”
She is not talking about the war destroying millions of lives, but tech research funded by US & UK
Kiev’s @FedorovMykhailo adds Ukraine is “best testing ground for technologies, come work w/ us”
US taxpayers funded Diia’s development. Visa Executive Chairman boasts Diia also offered financial incentives for Ukrainians to get vaccinated — unclear who financed that? Last year Ukraine awarded its national peace prize to Visa’s incoming CEO.
These people are genuinely overjoyed that Ukraine, by 2030, will be a totally digital. They say it will be the 1st cashless society & dependent on remote learning. They say this model is humanity’s future. No regard for the obliterated nation — maybe bc BlackRock gets to rebuild?

Ukraine has less then 0.6% of the world's population, but commands over 25% of the global surrogacy market
Princeton says countries like Nepal & India kicked the industry out bc it fuels human trafficking. What does that mean for a war zone like Ukraine? jpia.princeton.edu/news/lessons-u…
I stumbled upon this stat bc I was thinking about how Western economies are dependent on a constant influx of cheap labor (refugees from their resource wars). I looked into surrogacy bc celebs like Paris Hilton & the Kardashian family are normalizing it.
CNBC openly reports that the booming surrogate industry is dependent on poor women who agree to carry someone else's baby out of desperation
This horrifying Ukraine stat prompts me to wonder what is going on in that industry beyond the media'a view
No single org or party owns the anti-war banner. US citizens who oppose war don't subscribe to a single ideology.
Ppl can stay siloed & pat themselves on the back for marching w/ the same ppl they've marched w/ for years, or accept reality beyond their sectarian fantasy.
You can't grow a genuine US anti-war movement under constraints of sectarian ideology.
While I may not agree w/ every view of all those involved, I have an awareness of the stakes & enough confidence in my own message to focus on my real enemy: the war machine. Others may not.
I ask him to respond to allegations he’s a fascist before staff block access & physically attack Codepink
Here is video of unruly Inter-American @The_Dialogue staff violently removing @medeabenjamin’s sign and scrambling to protect neo-Nazi Bolivian coup leader @LuisFerCamachoV
More scenes from the utterly disastrous Inter-American @The_Dialogue event with new-Nazi Bolivian coup leader @LuisFerCamachoV
Watch his wealthy, white supporters chant “Bolivia united will never be defeated”
Today I tried to attend the OAS meeting on Bolivia. Security would not let me in even tho I presented multiple IDs (other reporters entered w/o check). Friendly guard ultimately told me the head of OAS press office made the call not to let me in.
OAS Office of Foreign Missions was hosting a reception outside of the meeting on Bolivia. As I waited at the door I observed many attendees checking-in. When asked which mission they represented most common reply was “State Department” 😹😹😹
A staff member working for the office of Venezuelan coup official @tarrebriceno harassed me at the door, calling me “fake news”
Honestly, if an org which views Tarre & his criminal gang as legit “diplomats” views me as an illegitimate journalist, it’s an honor
@ignandez@carlosvecchio@ricardo_hausman In July, a US court ruled the mining firm Crystallex could seize $1.4b worth of Citgo's assets as compensation for $ owed by the Venezuelan gov
To win, Crystallex had to prove Citgo was an "alter ego" of the state (therefore taking $ from one is equal to taking $ from the other)
@ignandez@carlosvecchio@ricardo_hausman In 2017 Guaidó's future "attorney general" @ignandez provided testimony supporting Crystallex's argument that Citgo was an "alter ego" of the Venezuelan gov
At the time Citgo was protected from such allegations bc Venezuela's gov did not manage the US-based company's daily ops
Sadly Chomsky has always been decidedly anti-communist, that's why he is presented in mainstream as the preeminent lefty US intellectual & treated like a prophet. Michael Parenti pointed out many of his awful views on the Soviet Union & Leninism years ago: reddit.com/r/communism/co…
In light of Chomsky's shameful Venezuela piece, it is worth remembering Parenti's critique of Chomsky.
"Like Orwell & most bourgeois opinion makers & academics, Chomsky treats Communism and fascism as totalitarian twins, offering no class analysis of either..."
In 1999 Parenti skewered Chomsky for his childish analysis of Leninism. If people paid more honest attention to Chomsky's words, as Parenti did, they would not be surprised regarding his views on Venezuela, Syria, or Nicaragua. He's never been as "left" as he is presented to be.
