THIS is DeSantis Florida Blueprint & it's bleak:
26th in violent crimes (11.5% of all mass shootings in the US)
27th in childcare costs
32nd in infant mortality
34th in % of families in poverty
39th in median family income
48th for teacher pay (was 47th when DeSantis took office)
Florida now has a whopping 5,294 posted teacher vacancies — more than triple the number the state had 5 years ago, according to Florida Education Association.
1st for the country's WORST learning rate
41st in access to healthcare
Highest homeowners insurance, three times the
national average
2nd worst state in the country for drinking water quality or lack thereof
35th for child wellbeing
Florida is the sixth most unequal state in terms of income out of all 50 states
11th worst state to raise a family
1 of the top 3 worst states in the US for LGBTQ, Hispanic, Black & Jewish people
Florida saw a 42% increase in antisemitic hate crimes from 2021--more than double the number of incidents recorded in the state in 2020.
DeSantis is a danger to humanity.

As Tim Scott bloviates about how America isn't a racist country I am reminded of Jewish people who believed the Nuremburg racial laws and the rising tide of anti-Semitism did not apply to them. They were not Ostjuden, whom they perceived as uneducated and superstitious. 1/8
German Jews were cultured. They were patriotic. Many could trace their roots in Germany back for generations. One officer who served in the Waffen-SS was the descendant of Jews who had fled the Inquisition and settled in Germany four centuries earlier. 2/8
Some German Jews even tried to halt the influx of their co-religionists fleeing the persecution and pogroms of Eastern Europe for fear that the presence of these unassimilated Jews would undermine their own social standing. How did those Jewish men rationalize serving a regime 3/

THREAD: Governor White Power's inauguration speech was demented. Here are some of the most egregious lies with necessary edits:

Freedom lives here, in our great Sunshine State of Florida!

[Edit: only if you agree with my authoritarianism]
Over the past few years, as so many states in our country ground their citizens down, we in Florida lifted our people up.

[Edit: as long as you were white, heterosexual, Christian and MAGA Republican]
When the world lost its mind – when common sense suddenly became an uncommon virtue – Florida was a refuge of sanity, a citadel of freedom for our fellow Americans and even for people around the world.

[Edit: Always a punchline, Florida has NEVER been a refuge of sanity]

Actually the @MiamiHerald endorsement of @CharlieCrist is SO important for everyone to read, I am tweeting it in its entirety as a thread here.

"Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Florida is a place of meanness. It’s a place where dissent is muzzled, where personal rights triumph over the
greater good, where winning is more important than unity — especially if that victory moves him closer to a White House run. That’s not the Florida we had four years ago. And it’s not a Florida that voters should tolerate for the next four years. There’s a far better choice
in the Nov. 8 election: Democrat Charlie Crist.
DeSantis’ first term in office has been defined by stunt after stunt and made-for-Fox-News grandstanding as he claims successive wins in the culture wars created by the politics of division that he exploits for his own gain.

Sanibel/Pine Island source: It's really bad down there.
The missing person count is up to around 4000 but there's roadblocks to accurately reconciling that number. There's a significant number suicides from the storm. Folks didn't evacuate, got flooded out, knew they were about
to drown but chose to end their life instead. They wanted someone on the phone with them in their final moments. A staff of 16 clerical workers took about 5300 calls and only missed about 50 or so. DeSantis is trying to block media from covering his disaster.

My source's wife is one of the clerical workers in the throes of this. She can not go on record because we have a petty, vindictive, dangerous governor and she is there to help people not to fight a governor running an imaginary presidential campaign.

Snippets from long @NewYorker article about the GOP flavor of the month. “Ron is the most selfish person I have ever interacted with. He has always loved embarrassing and humiliating people. I’m speaking for others—he was the biggest dick we knew."--a college 'pal' of DeSantis.
“To me, Ron DeSantis is a fairly run-of-the-mill politician who will do anything to get elected,” he said. “The problem is what the Party has become. It’s a race to the bottom.”--@GOP Stuart Stevens
“Ron’s weakness as a politician is that he doesn’t give a fuck. Big donors? He doesn’t give a shit. Cancels on them all the time.” "There’s no eye contact and little or no interaction. The moment I start to ask him a question, his head twitches.

Ex Alachua County School Superintendent @DrCarleeSimon, the victim of DeSantis's petty vindictiveness, fired after trying to protect students from a deadly pandemic, has created Families Deserve Inclusive Schools (FDIS) "in response to Governor DeSantis’ unprecedented attacks
on our public schools." FDIS was formed to "protect students, teachers and families from the Governor’s destructive education policies, ensuring that teachers and students feel safe in classrooms regardless of background and identity. “After two decades of budget restraints
and neglect by the Republicans in Tallahassee, it’s clear to everyone – students, parents, and educators – that Florida’s public school system has suffered. Now, Ron DeSantis seeks to force his extreme agenda on students. Far from a defender of parental rights, the Governor is
