Hi Brian Cornell, CEO @Target I understand, as extremists whip their base into an unstable frenzy, your first instinct is to protect your employees safety. We’ve all had to adapt in the face of emboldened bigotry.
But your actions are actually increasing the danger. Truly…
You are sending a message that to get their way, to alter your company mission, and uproot deeply held values , they simple need to rattle their sabers and topple displays and bluff charge a clerk.
Now that they see this weakness they will exploit it repeatedly on this and any other issue. Instead let them know this…
Cause damage to one display, put your bullying hands on any employee or customer and Target will land the full weigh of its organization on you.
Post a video documenting your crime to show off on social media? You might as well call it Exhibit A. We will find it and we will press every charge available.
And if an employee that you so much as shoulder brushed on your way out want to pursue civil litigation our lawyers will be at their disposal.
We will go above and beyond to make an example of you, or o make it clear that if you come to menace, threaten or harm anyone in our store you will reap the whirlwind of our full legal attention.
That’s how you protect your workers.
That’s how you end this tactic.
That’s how you walk the values you talk about.
You can fix this.
Pride has always been about standing up to bullies.
