This is a big deal. Asked about FDA during the announcement of his presidential campaign yesterday, Gov. Ron DeSantis did not hold back. @DrCaliff_FDA and @FDATobacco, looking at you here. 👀

The revolving door beckons, fellas. Maybe you could work at Mitch Zeller’s pharma firm?
🔥🔥🔥
Right on the money.
@US_FDA Chief Counsel Mark Raza, you might want to reflect on this part.

Although @FDA has banned 99.9% of vaping products and rejected tobacco harm reduction, it's willing to take a sensible harm-reduction approach with other products. Why the double standard? The agency is run by hypocrites and motivated by politics. THREAD 🧵
Brief background: cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive compound in cannabis. While consuming CBD carries some risk, it's widely used in the US and may confer certain health benefits. healthline.com/nutrition/cbd-…
After @reaganudall’s scorching audit, @FDATobacco’s response has been mostly lip service, finagling for more money, and double-down on failed policies. But the health inequities imposed by de facto prohibition on vaping *are* horrendous, so let’s look close at this news.
THREAD🧵
If CTP’s new equity chief, Dr. Le Fauve, wants to improve how the agency’s approach impacts vulnerable populations, there’s lots to redress. Start with the fact that countless minority and low-income Americans rely on nicotine vaping to quit cigarettes.
Not only is vaping vastly less harmful than smoking and by far the single most effective way to quit, it’s also much more affordable than cigarettes — and also much less costly than the pharmaceuticals, patches, gums, and other NRTs that the agency has long favored.
Pop quiz: which intervention dramatically cuts smokers' exposure to the deadly chemicals in combusted tobacco *and* helps them stay off cigarettes?
A. Bird watching
B. Nicotine gum
C. Vaping
Write down your answer, then read on as we examine the latest evidence. THREAD. 🧵
According to a new paper published in Nature Scientific Reports, "ENDS (vaping) expose users to substantially lower levels of toxicants than combustible cigarettes, confirming their potential for harm reduction. " nature.com/articles/s4159…
The study compared exposure to harmful and potentially harmful constituents (HPHCs) in smokers, exclusive vapers, dual-users and non-users of either product, using data from the PATH Study. Results:
How do we stop governments from criminalizing vaping and punishing adults who use the technology to quit smoking? @jacobgrier joins us on Shaping Vaping to explain how we end the "New Prohibition." theavm.org/shaping-vaping…
Step 1: FDA needs to disincentivize smoking by regulating cigarettes for the harmful products they are. The situation is upside down at present—99.9% of vaping products are illegal, while cigarettes are widely available.
