What are the four laws of dialectics? Here are some pictures and examples to summarize 🧵 Image
DIALECTICAL MOTION

When we want to study things according to dialectics, we study them in their motion and in their change.

Take, for example, this apple 🍎. It was not always an apple and it will not always be an apple. Instead, we understand the motion of its evolution. Image
RECIPROCAL ACTION

The development of things has no final end. There is a constant state of renewal and fading.

Maybe the apple falls from the tree. Perhaps an animal eats it and transports the seeds elsewhere. The apple may have come to a quick end, but starts a new process. Image
CONTRADICTION

Within everything, opposed forces exist. Things change because they contain contradictions within themselves.

At the same time that the apple is living, it is also dying. Every moment it comes closer to ripening it also comes closer to rotting. Image
QUANTITY → QUALITY

Qualitative leaps are a result of gradual quantitative changes.

Now bake the apple into a pie 🥧. Only after enough heat has been added to the pie will it successfully bake; add too much and it will leap in quality again—burnt. Image

M-C-M': The Rotation of (Industrial) Capital

Capitalist production is inseparably connected with circulation. How do capitalists make money from this process?🧵
Capitalists start with money and buy commodities of certain kinds: means of production and labor-power. The capitalists now have everything they need for production.

This is the first phase in the movement of capital - money capital transformed into productive capital.
Next begins the production process where workers expend their labor, fuel is burnt, & machinery is worn.

As a result of the production process, the commodities produced have greater value than that of the original commodities because of the surplus-value produced by the workers.

There is not a single rail connection between Laos and any other country, period. Or at least there wasn’t until 2015. 🚅🧵
On 23 August 1975, the Lao People’s Liberation Army entered the city of Vientiane, capital of the then-Kingdom of Laos. In the months that followed, the last King of Laos would formally abdicate, and the Kingdom would be replaced by the new People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR)
The founding of the Lao PDR marked the end of more than a century of struggle; first against French colonialists, then Japanese fascists, then American imperialists. Their struggle-filled history presented them and their newly born Democratic Republic with a dual problem:

The rich, ruling class writes the narratives and teaches people not just what, but also how to think. To uphold ruling class power, they want the masses to think metaphysically🧵
Bourgeois rule is reinforced by implicitly teaching metaphysics to the masses through media, schooling, and so on.

Metaphysics holds that all things are static, isolated, spontaneous, and that only quantity can change while quality is constant.
One way the ruling class reinforces metaphysics in capitalist society is through the portrayal of history as a collection of events that happen because of random, spontaneous, and isolated decisions and coincidences.

Markets and Socialist Construction🧵 Image
Markets, in basic terms, are the real-world exchange of goods and services. Many revolutionaries today have been led to believe that this exchange—these markets—are synonymous with Capitalism. This is not the case!
Markets are not monolithic. As any exchange of goods or services on a societal scale constitutes a kind of market, markets naturally have taken on a variety of forms throughout history.

The Secret War: US Terror in Laos 🧵

In late 1964 the United States unleashed hell upon the people of Laos — the most heavily bombed country in human history.
“In 1965, the airplanes began to drop bombs on the people. In this picture, people died in the holes. There were many people who couldn’t get out.

All that could be seen were heads, and legs, and hands.

A man who went to dig them out; his child and wife were buried inside.”
On December 12, 1964, Prince Souvanna Phouma, then Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Laos, signed Operation Barrel Roll. The coalition government which had brought together Pathet Lao, Neutralist, & Royalist forces led by the three Princes, signed in Geneva in 1962, had collapsed.
