1/3 Sunday share: Session design MD+2/MD-4 from yesterday. Very pleased with the session outcome. Firstly, 4 x 3 minutes in our signature design with restrictive defensive zones. This time with a restricted 10 m zone from the goals, to promote different types of finishes. @oddsbk
2/3 Secondly, we built on our signature 3 v 2 crossing and finishing exercise from the inner cutback zone. This time we added an "Escadinha" starting pass and a cutback to the outer half space and a 1st time cross with new runs in the box.
3/3 Lastly, we played a 7 v 7 +1 game of 4 x 3 minutes on a decagon shaped pitch. The constraint we used in the 3 first matches were: "You are not allowed to say anything when your team is in attack".

1/15 When I defended my PhD in November, I was given an assignment by the committee called "Why football coaches need to fall out of love with Rondos in practice". I looked at specificity, transfer of learning, scanning and creativity. I will now present some of the findings.
2/15 So what are Rondos? «A rondo is a training exercise design that encourages a greater number of «in possession players» (e.g., three, four, five etc.) to keep possession of the ball against a lesser number of «out of possession players» (@JimiVaughan et al., 2021, p. 7-8)
3/15 Do Rondos include all key principles of play?
In the image below I included some key fundamental and situational key principles of play. I would argue that Rondos only train a few of these principles (in bold).
