EXCLUSIVE/THREAD: LAPD arrested a man for stabbing the neck of a construction worker, nearly killing him. Despite a prison recommendation from Probation Dept., LA DA @GeorgeGascon's admin agreed to give him diversion instead. He is now charged w/ murdering his neighbor last week.
Stefen Sutherland was arrested for assault w/ a deadly weapon w/ GBI in Nov. 2020, he felt the worker made too much noise. Probation Dept. recommended prison, warning in writing that he was violent and was a risk for future outbursts.
In ‘21, he received mental health diversion.
Sutherland is now charged with fatally shooting his upstairs neighbor, Jennifer Gomez, multiple times in her own apartment last Tuesday. LAPD found 19 shell casings at the scene. He previously confronted her abt noise.
Gomez’s family has set up a GoFundMe. gofundme.com/f/jennifer-gom…
I reached out to @LADAOffice to ask how it made any sense to give mental health diversion to Sutherland for a violent felony that nearly killed a man. He was released for “community treatment” and was not in a lockdown facility. Part of their response is below.
This is the second diversion gone wrong in LA story we’ve been tipped to recently. Last month, we reported on a woman w/ violent history of using knives in assaults who received multiple diversions - no prison time, then was arrested for stabbing murder. foxnews.com/politics/innoc…

The U.S. government indirectly provides financial support for migrants by giving hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to NGOs via FEMA’s Emergency Food & Shelter Program. The NGOs then assist migrants w/ transportation around U.S & other services.
BREAKING: Per multiple CBP sources, Border Patrol agents in San Diego sector arrested an Afghan national on the FBI’s terror watchlist after he crossed illegally w/ group of migrants near Otay Mesa, CA on Wednesday. I’m told FBI confirmed the match, & is leading investigation.
I have reached out to CBP for comment, they tell me they will get back to me.
CA Congressman @DarrellIssa represents the area, and tells me his office has confirmed the arrest with their CBP contact. He released the following statement in response.
Sen. Cruz says what’s happening here is an “invasion” and a humanitarian crisis, criticizes AOC.
“She still owns the white pant suit! Why is she not still here with her head in her hands?”.
Cruz days there are 22,000 migrants across the river in Matamoros, MX waiting to cross illegally tonight after Title 42 drops at midnight.
President of @BPUnion Brandon Judd says one Border Patrol station just had 44 agents show up for muster, and only 4 of them are going on patrol in the field, the rest will be processing.
He says cartels will own their stretch of the border.
Nonstop flow of illegal crossings here in Brownsville. Working on scripts in my car and look at the window and see another large group gathering for processing after crossing over. Border Patrol buses have been coming and going constantly. It’s going to be a very busy week.
And before I even finished sending that tweet, another group is just now arriving. Literally nonstop.
NEW/THREAD: The L.A. County Board of Supervisors has quietly added a proposal on Tuesday’s agenda that seeks to “decarcerate” and “depopulate” LA jails by directing law enforcement & courts to vastly expand the use of “cite and release” & return to COVID emergency bail schedule.
The proposal would also ask the Sheriff to cite & release anyone with a bail of $50,000 or lower, which could include possession of child porn, domestic violence, illegally carrying a firearm, and violent offenses like residential burglary, robbery, and assault with a firearm.
The proposal was put forward by L.A. County Supervisors @HildaSolis & @LindseyPHorvath as part of a “care first, jail last” agenda. As of this posting, there is only one single public comment on the agenda. It is item number 22 & can be viewed here. assets-us-01.kc-usercontent.com/0234f496-d2b7-…
BREAKING: Our contact in Juarez, MX tells us a massive group of at least 1,000 migrants just attempted to rush a port of entry in El Paso in an effort to get into the United States. Video shows them pushing past the Mexican side of Paso Del Norte bridge. Awaiting CBP comment.
Another video from our contact. We’re told some crowd control measures were used (unclear which side of border), and a chunk of the group was repelled, and is now gathering at another smaller bridge, while some are trying to cross in the river. Waiting for more details from CBP.
