for @MSNBC, I wrote about the arrest of the Atlanta Solidarity Fund organizers, the bipartisan crackdown on protesters in Atlanta, and why everyone––regardless of where you are––should care about the struggle to #StopCopCity.

First, the arrest of long-time bail fund and mutual aid activists is just the latest in the Atlanta and Georgia police's extreme repression of the Stop Cop City movement––from the assassination of Tortuguita to the charging of 42 people with domestic terrorism.

While these arrests of bail fund organizers are a first, "if if history tells us anything, it certainly won’t be the last. Who will be targeted next?" Other bail funds? Abortion funds? Migrant travel funds? Other mutual aid groups?

Everyone should care, because "when it comes to policing, cities often follow one another's playbooks. And the playbook we’re seeing in Atlanta — featuring extreme police repression and anti-democratic governance — should scare everyone."

The laws that police and prosecutors are using to charge people with domestic terrorism and target community work send a clear message: "If you fight for a livable future or resist oppression, you might be labeled a domestic terrorist, and prosecuted accordingly."

and importantly, this is a BIPARTISAN EFFORT. Atlanta Dems and Georgia Republicans are working hand in hand to criminalize the movement, with both Mayor @andreforatlanta and Governor Kemp overseeing police forces sent to try to crush the resistance.

another reason you should care, even if you're not in Atlanta: Cop City is part of a trend. It followed Chicago's Cop Academy, and many similar facilities have been proposed across the country since. If this goes forward, there may be a Cop City coming to a city near you soon.

But while the police repression in Atlanta should scare everyone, the movement resisting it should INSPIRE everyone. Atlantans have banded together to fight for the future we deserve.

So be inspired, and take action :)

also, and this is very weird to say, I'll be on MSNBC today at 3 which is deeply terrifying but it's also a 6 minute segment so not THAT much can go wrong in that time right???
