Alright, everyone. We’re off and running in Kentucky’s second game of the day. It’s Cats and Hoosiers again with IU trying to lock down a spot in the super regional, and UK trying to force a championship game on Monday. Follow along with updates here… #BBN
Nothing for UK in T1 after first two reach safely. IU starter comes up with a big double-play grounder and a fly ball to get out of it unscathed.
Hoosiers coming to bat for the first time tonight…
Energy level much different in the stands tonight. Wasn’t much buzz in the first game. The red vs. blue has changed that.
End of 1: Kentucky 0, Indiana 0
Good news for Cats: Relatively easy 1st for Logan Martin. Bad news for Cats: took him 25 pitches to get through it. Hoosiers fouled off a bunch of pitches.
Nolan McCarthy having a day to remember for Kentucky. 3-run bomb is his second long ball of the day and third extra-base hit. Cats grab 3-0 lead on Hoosiers, T2
Cats have two more runners on in T2 and are threatening to chase IU’s Seiler from the game.
Bases loaded after Felker knock, and that’s going to do it for the IU starter. Cats may be gaining the upper hand in the pitching scenario if they can force Hoosiers to use a bunch of arms tonight.
Wild pitch plates 4th run for Cats. Still two on with two outs, T2
End of 2: Kentucky 4, Indiana 0
Wow. Hoosiers on the board in an odd way. Kentucky CF Jackson Gray tracked a fly ball to the wall in CF, leaped to catch it just short of the yellow line, but it bounced off his glove and over the fence for an Indiana solo HR by Goforth. Second HR by a 9-hole hitter in 2 days IU
Two-out single by IU’s Taylor trims UK lead to 4-2, B3
End of 3: Kentucky 4, Indiana 2
Massive blown call on a would-be double down the LF line by UK's Burkes with no outs and a runner at first in T4. Would have had runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Burkes gets hit by a pitch, though, and there are still two men on and no outs.
Hunter Gilliam with a 2-run single to CF, extending Kentucky lead to 6-2, T4
IU's Mathison greets UK reliever Evan Byers with a towering HR to RF. It's a 6-3 game, B4
End of 4: Kentucky 6, Indiana 3
Devin Burkes with a two-run bomb to deep LCF and Kentucky extends lead to 8-3, T5
Scoreless B5 for UK reliever Ryan Hagenow.
End of 5: Kentucky 8, Indiana 3
IU third baseman Pyne has put on a show with the glove today. Unfortunately for him, his first baseman dropped the throw after his diving stop, and Cats have a leadoff baserunner in T6 looking at add to an 8-3 lead.
Church doubles over the CF's head, and the Cats are in major business with runners at 2nd and 3rd and no outs here in T6
RBI double down the RF line by Waldschmidt makes it UK 9-3, but he may have been out at second. They are reviewing the play. Called safe on the field.
Waldschmidt is ruled out at second. Runner at third, though, and just one out for Cats.
Mathison, who homered earlier tonight for IU, drives home another run with an RBI single to LCF. Hoosiers trim UK lead to 9-4, B6
Indiana pitching staff hits its 8th Kentucky batter of the game here in T7. Don't recall ever seeing this many by one team.
Wild pitch plates a 10th Kentucky run. It's 10-4, T7
Pitre gapper is an RBI double to make it 11-4 Kentucky, T7
Hunter Gilliam with a BOMB to LF, a three-run shot to make it Kentucky 14, Indiana 4 - T7
Ryan Waldschmidt with a 2-run bomb to RCF after a 9th UK batter is hit by a pitch and warnings issued to both teams. It's 16-4 Cats, T7
End of 7: Kentucky 16, Indiana 4
Nothing going for Kentucky in T8.
It remains 16-4 Cats.
NCAA officials have told UK that tomorrow's championship game will be "after 3 ET," although the exact slot has not been determined due to other games still in progress.
FINAL: Kentucky 16, Indiana 6
Cats win two games on Sunday in impressive fashion to keep their season alive and set up an NCAA Lexington Regional championship game with Hoosiers on Monday afternoon/evening. Time still TBA.
Coaches being separated at end of game. Words being exchanged.
