What we have to face while Playing in England
1. Conditions
2. English Pitches:
3. Oval Pitch Report:
4. Toss :
5. Ball* (Dukes compared to SG we use in India)
Every country has different Test cricketing conditions.
For instance in India hot climate and flat wickets. In Australia it’s all about the bouncy tracks.
Likewise England has unique factors. The combo of green tops & grey clouds provides the swing and seam movement. Even though the ball doesn’t get extra pace from the pitch
because of the softness in the English soil the humidity & moisture content in the air gives turbulence on the sides of the ball as a result the ball swings according to the direction of the air. Called “LATERAL MOVEMENT”.
If the condition is bright & sunny batting becomes
easier despite the presence of moist air, the hot air that rises from the ground due to heat cuts off the atmospheric stability which in turns minimises the swing and seam movement. Smart batsmen make use of the sun to score runs in England.
They bide their time at the crease and wait for conditions to get favourable to batting and then score big. Mental strength of a batter is tested particularly rain effected games. the players have to switch their game-plans every time they walk into the middle after rain.
THE PITCH:
Cricket pitch loam is a composition of soil created 4 cricket tracks.
Pitches in England are as fickle as d country's weather. Mostly they are green&seam friendly. The grass cover vary from touch of grass2a lot of grass it allows bowlers 2bowl unpredictable deliveries Image
OVAL : The Oval offers a contradiction. The pitch there is a paradise for bowlers who want to try their hand at reverse swing. Even a 50-over old ball will give handy reverse swing to the bowlers here. Strangely enough the spinners have a better record in Oval that pace bowlers. Image
Ball: The Dukes balls are made from scottish leather &are added with grease to make them shine more as well as be water-resistant from the wet grass and moist air. Consequently, the Dukes balls are darker than any other cricket ball. Dukes ball dont swing in the first 2-3 overs. ImageImageImage
Toss:
The decision-making starts with reading the pitch. Generally, there are 3 parameters to decide on what to do. Volume of grass, moisture content, and compaction of the track. In that situation, the outcome of the toss is crucial.
WIN TOSS BAT FIRST IS THE MANTRA IN OVAL. Image
The Oval is a venue full of sports history, including hosting England's 1st test match, a game that WG Grace took a historic century in England’s 1880 victory vs Australia. The Oval is known as the birthplace of the Ashes legend. Sir Donald Bradman played his last test innings.
