As a former HoloLens engineer I'm really waiting for them to reveal the specs because a lot of this was done by Microsoft and Magic Leap almost 10 years ago and there are some fundamental issues with AR wearables that they're dancing around.
Aaaand they moved right on past the point where they'd tell us the field of view. That's concerning.
These demo 3d apps look so much like what we did at Microsoft I did a double-take. And the rendering quality / materials looks exactly the same, which make me think this is going to be more similar to HoloLens than they'd like people to find out.
You're going to find out that there's a limited window you need to look through. (Sub-180 field of view.) An additive display. (Meaning, light colors are solid, darker ones are transparent.) The "dimming" is probably an all-or-nothing dimming layer, and the battery life is 2hrs.
Apple is going to find out why Microsoft stopped pursuing the consumer space with that $3500 price tag and the aforementioned limitations. Best of luck! Hope it's amazing.
They didn't even bother to try and show off some realistic visualizations. At Microsoft I ran a tech cart running real HoloLens apps in a Unity session on PC, like the kind used for the infamous Minecraft stage demo. Microsoft was always so much more honest about this tech.
I can already taste the disappointment when Apple and Disney's combined great storytelling plus 100% fake app visualizations for this WWDC showcase is going to run straight into the brick wall of technical constraints.
This whole marketing presentation is a huge wave of good and bad nostalgia working on HoloLens back in 2015. It was the best experience of my career and some of the most frustrating. Maybe one day I'll have the opportunity to work in the space again.

Apple loves bragging about specs. Pay attention to the ones they gloss over.
