its standard for a lot of us now but as theres a new alien story in the news its worth considering, if you never have, that even with zero previous assumptions, the ‘conventional’ aliens narrative literally makes zero sense.
the standard narrative here is the most implausible.
the idea that there is a race or cohort of physical beings who can makes ships that travel across light years through space, and that they do this often, to earth, to do basically nothing but fly around and occasionally scare people, then leave
is already nonsensical
but then
you also have to believe that sometimes these ships crash, and the parts are just left here. theyre not smart enough to travel in packs or even pairs on these trans-universe journeys.
and then the government is able to collect these parts, basically unhindered.
lmao. ok.
these journeys are important enough to make, across the universe, over and over, for decades, but not important enough to have any protocols about or to actually do anything on other than accidentally get discovered by the government after appearing randomly to pilots and farmers
the framing of it is so strong that any ‘normal’ person who even touches the UFO phenomenon now essentially always takes this frame and adopts it in total. UFOs are already packaged in such a way that its hard to zoom out and realize that this literally is completely nonsensical.
the idea that aliens are actually what we call supernatural (not simply physical beings) or, properly stated imo, that theyre an extension of the demonological phenomenon, has only recently made a dent in the conversation (which just happened in the last few years btw).
so now, if thats addressed, thats framed as the narrative that requires a ton of prior assumptions and worldview baggage.
but its the total opposite.
you would never come to the above conclusion naturally at this time of you really looked it all over, because it makes no sense.
ur still stuck with the problem of squaring hyper literally interstellar competency with apparent incompetency
in my opinion its way easier to incorporate an element of intentional deception or “messing with people”, + then ur playing more on my turf (malevolent entities)
the last thing which is only my intuition based on my own studies is, personally i believe the “literal aliens traveling in ships” narrative was easier - and developed - when people could think they were from closer planets
its a lot harder to square with full on galactic travel
this is just my own intuition based on a variety of things. mars is pretty close, you can imagine a ‘ship’ coming from there. but once our tech advanced, the story kind of changed and they had to be from the pleiades, or places millions and millions of miles away.
the question of “what is it” (how do you explain the UFO phenomenon) is harder to go into because most normal people only consider “is it real” (is the UFO phenomenon real)
totally different things
a brief review for the people who have understandably never considered this

we've been riding the UFO wave, partially due to the news. perhaps you'll allow me to do a little dancing monkey trick here tying together a few things
THE problem of what conventional aliens mean for religion:
native americans, adam, 4th century heretics, and astrobiology
for the rest of the thread we will be adopting the normal standard person's view of what aliens and UFOs are: creatures, kind of like little green men, or greys, or something, from another planet.
i do not think this. so, none of this is a problem for me.
thats the disclaimer.
however we will be adopting this view in order to explore a few things.
you see, in the popular consciousness, you will often hear the question of what aliens would "do" to religion - how religion would explain aliens, if they landed on someones lawn one day, or something.
i looked up the census data for “what is your ancestry or ethnic origin?” to see how many people put american (20 mil), and learned that some people put their state down for this answer (i will post this data)
fascinating. heres the trivia question moment:
just to be clear, thousands of people apparently put down: “my ancestry or ethnic origin is missouri”, or any of the other states.
so heres the question:
what US state had, by far, the largest number of people identifying it as their “ancestry or ethnic origin?”
with absolutely no competition the state with the largest number of americans identifying it as their “ancestry or ethnic origin” is…
texas, at 32k.
heres the data. pretty interesting. obviously had no idea this was a thing.
i dont subscribe to the thesis of this book at all - i obtained it as a historical item.
lets look at philip k dick as the overlap between a trashed academic career and a california bishop who died alone in the desert near where Christ lived.
…
this book was initially published in 1970. the copy i found here off a rural highway was published in 1971, so, thats cool.
a woman was selling (getting rid of) books outside a non denominational church. i was surprised to find this laid out on a blanket there, in the sun.
technically it was twenty cents. i hadnt seen a copy since i used to be around (but not in) weird academic religion world about ten years ago. i knew a guy who was into this for reasons we may or may not cover here.
so, what is it? well thats interesting in and of itself.
i find something about the scale of 1800s florida odd
read that (despite being the location of the first mass in the later US) in 1850 it had only 5 catholic churches
in 1850, under 90k people lived there, around 40k slaves
50,000 free people just 10 years before the civil war
check this out. key west was floridas largest city until 1900
only had 18,000 people. some very small towns, the smallest, i pass have between 6-7k people. so take three of them, thats floridas largest city, until almost world war one
crazy
they published a book in 1914 about catholicism in america to celebrate the ‘golden jubilee’ of pope saint pius X (on the book hes just called pope pius X)
so, this is the oldest photo i could find of what is probably the oldest catholic church in florida, in st. augustine:
while reading “frankly weird” here i was struck with the sudden overwhelming and militant conviction that we should have gatekept art like a himalayan monk gatekeeping tantras that you can only look at after multiple decades of fasting and sitting in the snow naked
please do not refer to the greatest flowerings of the human spirit ever documented as “not having a normal one”
i used to do psychedelics in art museums a lot (sorry, i actually genuinely recommend not using drugs), and occasionally i brought other people with me if they asked. i didnt intend this, but its kind of an interesting psychological experiment. what happens if you do that.
