ברבדוס היא מדינת אי באוקיינוס האטלנטי, מעט מזרחית לים הקאריבי. בניגוד ליתר איי הקאריביים בהם ביקרתי (סה״כ 11 איים), היא מאופיינת בטופוגרפיה שטוחה מאד. אחד החששות הכי גדולים במדינה הוא קצב עליית מפלס הים, שעולה בכ-3 מ״מ בשנה. היסטוריה. כמו ביתר איי הקאריביים, גם תושביה המקוריים >
של ברבדוס היו שבטים שמקורם מדרום אמריקה. לא ברור בדיוק מי האירופאים הראשונים שהגיעו לאי במהלך המאה ה-15 וה-16 - ספרדים או פורטוגזים אך הם לא הקימו התיישבות. האנגלים הגיעו ב-1625 והקימו התיישבות. ברבדוס נתפסת כערש נתיב סחר העבדות האפריקאי ע״י הבריטים, עם עדויות שהביאו איתם עבדים>
אפריקאים כבר ב-1625. במקור, ברבדוס הייתה מלאה ביערות, אך אלו פינו את מקומם למטעי הסוכר, בהם הועבדו מרבית העבדים. ברבדוס נשארה חלק מבריטניה עד שקיבלה עצמאות ב-1966 ונשארה כחלק מחבר העמים הבריטי, עד שפרשה והפכה לרפובליקה ב-30 לנובמבר 2021, מה שעושה אותה לאחת הרפובליקות הצעירות twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

אוכלוסיית ברבדוס מונה כ-300,000 תושבים, כ-85% צאצאי עבדים שהובאו מאפריקה. יתר האוכלוסייה ערבוב של בריטים וקהילות סוריות ולבנוניות.

לאחת המדינות הכי יקרות בקאריביים. יש סופר מרקטים במחירים סבירים אבל בגדול כל דבר אחר מאד יקר (אין סיכוי לצאת ממסעדה בפחות מ40-70 דולר) ואין ספק שזה יעד של עשירים. לא ראיתי עוד אי בקאריביים עם כזו כמות של נדל״ן יוקרה. מלבד טיול סביב האי הקטן (שלוש שעות ברכב), יש חופים מהיפים
שראיתי בקאריביים. יש חיי לילה ומסעדות מצוינות. הבירה, ברידג׳טאון היא מרכז היסטורי ויש בה אתרי מורשת רבים של UNSECO, ביניהם בית ג׳ורג׳ וושינגטון בו הוא שכן ב-1751, מבנים אדריכליים קולוניאליים ובעיקר בית הכנסת נידחי ישראל. בית הכנסת הספרדי הוקם ב-1654.
יהודי ברבדוס הראשונים הגיעו ImageImage
ב-1628 עקב רדיפות בפורטוגל וספרד. בית הכנסת נחרב ב-1831 עקב הוריקן הרסני ונבנה שוב מיד לאחר מכן. כיום, עיקר הקהילה היהודית מורכבת מיהודים אשכנזים מצפון אמריקה שחיים בברבדוס ובית הכנסת מתמלא בעיקר בחגים מתיירים יהודים שמגיעים לחופשה באי (בלי עין הרע לא חסר כאלה). באתי מדי יום לבקר ImageImageImage
שם אבל הוא היה סגור במהלך כל השבוע, ולכן לצערי לא נכנסתי ויש לי רק תמונות מבחוץ. ברבדוס היא גם בירת הרום של הקאריביים ובה מזקקת הרום העתיקה ביותר - Mount Gay, שפעילה ברצף מ-1703. המזקקה מציעה מרכז מבקרים. יש גם גן בוטני ומבצרים אבל הכי טוב לעשות בטן גב (זה לא ככה בכל הקאריביים)> ImageImage
השם של ברבדוס? מקורו במגלה הארצות הפורטוגזי פדרו קמפוס שהגיע לאי ב-1536 (לא בטוח אם אחרי או לפני הספרדים כאמור), וקרא לאי ברבדוס על שם עצי התאנה שלהם שורשים מתנפנפים שמזכירין זקן. ברבדוס = מזוקנים. כן למדינה הזו קראו על שם זקן. תודה רבה שהגעתם וקראתם עד לכאן:) Image

A claim I see a lot on social media:

“Before 1948, Jews lived in peace in Muslim countries, as well as Jews who lived under the British Mandate of Palestine”

For centuries, Jews lived all over the Middle East and North Africa. By 1948, there were already close to one million Jews living in Muslim-majority countries:

135,000 in Iraq, 250,000 in Morocco, 66,000 in Egypt, 63,000 in Yemen, as well as ancient communities in the land of Israel that was named Palestine at that time under the Ottomans, Syria, Tunisia, Iran and more. We're talking about synagogues, schools, culture, and businesses that existed for centuries.Image
But when looking into these countries across the Muslim world, Jews and Christians and other minorities were not considered equal under Islamic law. This status was called "Dhimmi".

Dhimmi basically means they were second-class citizens facing restrictions such as:
-having to wear yellow badges (sounds familiar?)
-being forbidden from riding horses with saddles and ---carrying weapons
Having to pay a special tax called “jizya” just for not being Muslim.
16th-century Islamic scholar Ahmad Sirhindi wrote that the purpose of jizya was "to humiliate them” (the non-Muslims)Image

The UN has one refugee agency for the world: UNHCR, which resettles people and ends refugee status.

Palestinians are the only group in the world (!) with their own agency, UNRWA, which grows in refugee numbers instead of reducing them, like a refugee agency should and that's deliberate.

UNRWA has 5.9M people registered, yet 95% wouldn’t qualify under law.

UNRWA was created in 1949 after Arabs rejected the UN Partition Plan, waged war on Israel, the Jewish homeland with 3,000+ years of documented history, both archaeological and written.
The Arabs lost that war, miserably.

A very long thread of Palestinians calling Yuval Abraham a Zionist - because in the end, after all, “Zionist” is just a synonym for “Jew” to them.

According to this doctrine, 3,000 consecutive years of Jewish life in this land are not enough to share it with them.

In the end, this is the Palestinian mainstream. Nothing will satisfy them besides Jews not living. That's why they rejected numerous peace agreements, with over 90% of the disputed land.

Until that changes, there cannot be peace unfortunately.

I wish life and solutions to problems were as simple as last night’s Oscar winners made it out to be, now to the facts:

1/4 For the overwhelming majority of Palestinians, every Jew is a settler including the Israeli Oscar winner, and no Jew can live anywhere between the river and the sea according to them.
That’s what “from the river to the sea” means.

The Palestinians have rejected every peace offer that included around 94% of the disputed land because, for them, the entire land between the river and the sea is Arab. They ignore 3,000 years (!) of continuous Jewish presence on this land and refuse to share it.Image

 The October 7 attack did not occur in disputed territory but within internationally recognized borders established by the 1949 Armistice Lines with Egypt.
Individuals were murdered because they were Jewish, and there are countless recordings and videos showing how Hamas terrorists, alongside Gazan crowds, referred to the victims they raped, murdered, and kidnapped as Jewish settlers, even though, again, this is not disputed territory. It was never about Palestine.
Hamas was elected by the residents of Gaza and receives substantial support in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria).

 Israel has signed six peace agreements to date, all of which it maintains.
Jews simply are not willing to be murdered merely for existing as a persecuted minority of about 7 million in a Middle East of 450 million Arab Muslims, just as other minorities are persecuted by them, such as the Yazidis, Kurds, Druze, and Christians.

Did you know that the chant ‘from the river to the sea’ in Arabic translates to ‘from the river to the sea, Palestine will be Arab’? This has nothing to do with a disputed land, this is just Arab colonialism.Image

Do Doctors Without Borders collaborate with Hamas?

An Eye-Opening Investigation by Le Journal du Dimanche:

For a year now, Médecins Sans Frontières - Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has faced criticism for biased reporting in favor of Hamas in Gaza and for either cooperating with or remaining silent about Hamas’s actions.

MSF employs 800 local workers in Gaza who provide information to the media, with no way to verify its accuracy. Early in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, MSF spread fake news about an attack on Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza.

The claim about Al-Ahli dominated international headlines. MSF even claimed ignorance of Al-Shifa Hospital being used as a Hamas base, despite evidence on social media showing hostages being dragged through its corridors by Hamas militants.

When questioned by Le Journal du Dimanche, MSF dismissed the investigation as a “dangerous and irresponsible move” that “reinforces Israeli government rhetoric.”
This defensive response appears inadequate given the serious accusations from former MSF members. One prominent voice is Alain Destexhe, a former Secretary General, who published a report accusing MSF of collaborating with Hamas.

Destexhe claims MSF has strayed from its humanitarian mission towards a political agenda. He argues that MSF’s neutrality is compromised, with accusations of MSF ignoring humanitarian law violations by Hamas in Gaza.
