THREAD: the cult
1 - Trump supporters validate who they are by their "beliefs." Pretty easy to do. If you say you believe something and a lot of others say they believe it too, it must be real. Belief is emotional, requiring minimal thought. And who can tell you what to believe?
2 - Think about it - why work so hard to discern information and knowledge when it's way simpler just to seek validation for your feelings? And it's so easy to broaden that to false narratives. "I don't believe in vaccines or masks" becomes equal to "I don't believe in science."
3 - Once you adopt a belief system not anchored in truth, and you assign more importance to the belief than you do to fact, it becomes easy to do it again. And AGAIN. Before you know it, you're addicted to the validation you get from whatever media source confirms your beliefs!
4 - That media source you're addicted to is careful. Never stirs up cognitive dissonance. Never puts forth debate. You feel safe there. Soon - you feel UNsafe anywhere else. You're in an echo chamber now. Truth is skewed, and little penetrates. Congratulations, you're in a cult!

Trump is terrified. Everything he posts, shows this. He knows he's caught crime-ing. His aura of invincibility has been pierced. He uses his candidacy to politicize indictments. What he's fighting to stave off is HUMILIATION. Because THAT'S what a malignant narcissist fears most!
At Duty To Warn, I tweeted for years that Trump's GREATEST fear is humiliation. At Trump's core are feelings of inadequacy and desperate quest for legitimacy. His whole life is a concoction of frauds, secrets and lies. The Committee exposed him. Prosecutors will expose him worse.
To be clear, he IS afraid of criminal conviction, but feels he can fight and extend process indefinitely with organized support AND narrative. He can't anymore. There are too many cases, and discovery has now gone too far. Trials will expose BOTH the truth of who, and WHAT he is.
(1/4) We all know narcissists. But Malignant Narcissism is different - narcissistic disorder PLUS sociopathy, paranoia, AND sadism. It nestles between sanity and insanity. And it's produced THE most vicious inhumanity in history. They ALWAYS get worse. They RARELY go down alone
(2/4) In the annals of malignant narcissism, there's never been a situation quite like this. The scale is enormous. The media is constant. Trump bifurcates the entire electorate. His appeal to many is religious. The disdain for him by a larger group is unmatched in human history.
(3/4) Looks to me like the apparatus of enablers and amplifiers (Fox) will keep peeling off him. Not because he's a criminal or pathologically aberrant, but because he can no longer lead them to power, and they can't trust him even so. We're not at a high point in our evolution.
