We are live at the @TCEQ Permit Request Meeting (No. 78606) for Yellowjacket Concrete Batch Plant at the East Aldine District Town Center.

#aldinetx #SayNOtoPollution #PeopleOverProfit
Yellowjacket is just a few blocks away from Keith-Weiss Park, Worsham Elementary School, and several clinics including HOPE clinic at Baker Ripley.

There are 9 concrete plants in the Aldine area.
Yellowjacket has shown that it has no intention of being a good neighbor and operating within the limits of its permit.
We would like to thank @RepWalle and @CarolforTexas requested this meeting with @TCEQ that allows the #Aldine community to share their comments, concerns, and whether they are in support or opposition of this permit.
Thank you to the #Aldine community for coming out and and making sure your voice gets heard.

The health and lifestyle impacts CBP’s cause in our communities are real and they must be considered, on the record, to hold these industries accountable to be a #GoodNeighbour
Q&A has begun:

Q: I worked at a CBP and dust goes further 400yds, why is it that a recycling center has to be further from a home than a concrete batch plant?

A: a technical review where air dispersion modeling is used that set the standard distance for concrete batch plants.
Q: To TCEQ, what is your mission?

A: [See website for mission]
Q: are you fostering the economic growth by harming the health of the community?

A: a review is conducted and a health portion is run developed by the EPA that these facilities must abide to.
Q: We just went through a pandemic, have you thought what will happen to the people, because of the pandemic, who will be impacted by this bad air quality?

A: we have not taken this into account, we are using the federal standards and what they’ve created.
Q: To the Company [Yellowjacket], why don’t you use lands near the airport that are far away from the community?

A: the applicant is developing the property they already own and are trying to use it to the best of their ability. We are bringing economic growth.
Q: What benefits are you bringing to the community?

A: I don’t know how many of my employees live in the community but we pay taxes
Q: how many employees do you have?

A: About 25

Q: how many live in the area, percentage wise?

A: I don’t know
@jenhada from @airallianceHOU
Q: Why are you (OPEC) here today?

A: We are short staffed so we can’t always be at meetings but now that things have to come to light about CBP’s it seems appropriate
Q: Can you elaborate about what has come to light about CBP’s?

A: We
Q: ¿Cuantos de ustedes vivían cerca de una planta cementeras?

A: some of our staff does live in the area but I think you’re asking about health.
Q: ¿Porque los de la compañía no hacen su casa en ese terreno?

A: we can’t answer personal questions
During the Q&A portion while a Spanish speaking member of the community is taking the mic, the representative for Yellowjacket is on his phone and not using the headphones used to translate so he can engage with his neighbors and listen to their concerns.
Q: About the application, in the application there’s a question: will the plant operate at night? What does operate mean and what does night mean?

A: the operation is anything that is conducted on site and can create contaminants. The standard permit doesn’t define the hours.
Q: If TCEQ saw that this company was operating at 2 am, would that count as a violation?

A: it’s a case by case, in this case the standard permit doesn’t have limitations on hours of operation.
Q: The amendment reduces a reduction of PM but there’s also going to be an additional silo, what data and index model are you using?

A: This standard permit application doesn’t have any modeling done for this application. The modeling that was used was the 2012 modeling
