1. Great to attend the Global Offshore Wind Conference 2023, hosted by @RUKEvents – the UK’s largest meeting place for the offshore wind industry 🌎
To mark #GlobalWindDay, take a look below at how we are transforming our energy security through wind power ⬇️
2. The UK has the most installed capacity in Europe with enough energy to power over 10 million homes 🏡
UK waters are now home to 44 offshore windfarms, with over 2,500 turbines in operation.
This includes the four largest operational offshore windfarm projects in the world.
3. We are reaping the rewards of this innovation and investment to break wind energy records.
Last year, onshore and offshore British wind farms generated seven times more electricity compared to 2010 levels 🔋
4. Amazingly, that’s nearly a quarter of our total electricity output!
Our flagship #ContractsforDifference scheme is creating greater financial certainty for renewable electricity projects, making the UK amongst the best places to invest in offshore wind.
5. Launched in March, the Floating Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Scheme (FLOWMIS) will put us at the forefront of the next generation of offshore wind.
6. Floating offshore wind is the game changer that will allow us to install wind turbines in larger, deeper sites, helping fully to realise the potential of offshore wind power.
7. And we’re not stopping there.
With ambitions to triple our offshore wind capacity by 2030, we will generate enough electricity from offshore wind comfortably to power the equivalent of every home in Britain, while supporting up to 90,000 skilled British jobs.

I’m pleased to be able to share more detail about my responsibilities as Minister for Climate.
It's vital that the UK continues to drive forward progress in combating climate change. I look forward to doing this at home and with our partners around the world.

The UK already has a strong record on tackling climate change and is implementing a landmark Net Zero Strategy.
We’ve committed to going further and faster to achieve a carbon neutral future.

But Putin’s aggressive energy squeeze across Europe means we must now put the UK’s energy security at the heart of our energy plans.
And with our government’s commitment to growth, we know seizing economic opportunities must also be central to all our ambitions.
