NAILED IT: "What I’m saying is that the White House is teeming with wannabe authoritarians who believe the state would do a better job raising kids by filling their impressionable heads with corrosive, immoral ideas. And that the institutions to achieve that goal already exist."
"Public schools, some of them excellent and many of them disastrous, are not voluntary, communal places. In most municipalities, parents have little choice, and their kids are in a captive audience...
You pay for all of it. But you also get to shut up."
And my innate biases make me really pissed off, considering this tidbit from yesterday.
My dad had an undergrad degree in Engineering...from India. That is it. He came here, in 1969 (when people his color was still treated the way those people were treated back then), came to DC, got a job and paid for his M.S. at George Washington.
He lived in Alexandria, and walked across the bridge...even in the winter (when he didn't own a winter coat), because he couldn't afford the bus.
I heard lot of issues with this policy, and when I read up on it had some of the same concerns. Biden's policy makes efforts to fight antisemitism MORE DIFFICULT.
"But most of the recommendations are simply the government telling itself to mention antisemitism in the course of routine training and other activities, a legitimization of DEI that only strengthens its hold on policy in the long term."
"In fact, the strategy simply isn’t about Jews and antisemitism. Islamophobia is mentioned numerous times, but no reference is made to Israel boycotts, much less to Islamist or liberal violence against Jews."
If there are any adults left in the White House (the scary part is there might not be) they all know the 14th amendment option is not only insane, but would be more damaging than default ultimately.
Even Biden's comments today are more about placating the wackadoodle Left than any serious consideration on this.
There is a 0.0% chance that this Supreme Court would approve the President invoking the 14th amendment to violate the debt ceiling.
ZERO.
Hell...I am not sure Sotomayor and Kagan wouldn't agree with conservatives on that. Probably not, but possible.
6-3 against at worst.
In short, Biden knows that SCOTUS would slap him down like so fast that his head would spin, and thus he would accomplish nothing but create more chaos. Like I've said before, the 14th amendment solution would be WORSE THAN DEFAULTING...and default would be plenty bad.
And there is almost absolute certainty the GOP would have to impeach Biden if he did it. There is no way GOP voters would allow such a transgression to go by without some punishment. And frankly...I'd agree with them.
