One last #SBC23 for now regarding my amendment to BFM:
I believe it was a needed and good edit to strengthen what we have always believed. Nothing change in belief, but gave more clarity.
At the same time, I am 100% of amending the process of how this happens.
It’s not lost on me on how significant this was. I assumed this motion would be referred, and I had no intentions of overruling that decision.
When it was brought out it seemed like a chance to let the messengers speak, and they did just that.
I am not in the camp that believes the messengers are dumb. I empathized in speaking for the amendment that this should not be considered lightly, and what it means.
The messengers voted decisively to amend. In fact, the question was called and 2/3 voted to end debate.
The messengers decided.
But I believe the process needs to be tighter. I plan to make a motion, or to speak for a motion, at #SBC24 to that end. I’m not sure how that would look yet, but I think it’s wise and needed as well.
Some say this has opened Pandora’s box.
I understand that sentiment but I believe the messengers would not make a substantive change to the BFM.
The amendment offered clarity to one of the issues we are facing right now.
Anything of change would likely be commited or voted down.
So, let’s work to that end in Indianapolis. And between now and then make disciples who make disciples to the ends of the earth for the glory of God.

1️⃣ The SBC is not drifting. I don’t see how you could walk away from this convention and believe otherwise.
2️⃣ The SBC is a people committed to the Great Commission.
3️⃣ The SBC is prepared to speak toward hard issues with biblical clarity.
On point one, the messengers overwhelmingly disfellowshipped 3 churches out of step with what we believe.
Clarity was offered for what we believe about the office of pastor with 2 of these churches, and other motions.
All these votes were overwhelming.
On point 2, we commissioned 79 missionaries. @DrPaulChitwood emphasized supporting the “home team” and I heard a lot of pastors really thinking about to get to their churches.
The Great Commission is urgent and Southern Baptists are doing their part to be obedient.
Yesterday I tweeted in response to a video of Madison Cawthorn about my experience knowing him. I walked away from my phone and crazy replies and DMs. Mostly anonymous accounts demanding I reveal a smoking gun. I get why people don’t make public comments, it’s crazy.
I don’t know of him doing anything illegal. He “worked” for less than 2 months. He rarely showed up, and when he did he told a lot of lies. Many of those are wide known as he has circulated them for years. His language was also unbecoming of someone to work in a church.
But man, people assume the worst. The church did nothing wrong in this incident. We parted ways. Madison had other jobs at the time. He had not internet in ministry and it seemed like being truthful. Those incidents are just that, numerous lies.
