🧵The Ultimate Guide to Macro Shots with #Midjourney

I spent weeks generating 1097 macro shots in Midjourney.

Now I'm sharing everything I learnt with you.

I'll show you my best prompts and tips.

They will instantly level up your shots.

#1 Use a camera + lens for improved detail and photorealism.

The Nikon Z7 II camera and Nikon NIKKOR Z 105mm f/2.8 VR S lens is a good choice.

Left: "shot with 105mm lens" but no specific camera + lens model.
Right: correct camera + lens model

#2 Macro shots of some animals look better than others.

Bees, ants, frogs and spiders are good choices.

Beetles and snails are not as good because they don't have so much detail. macro shot of an ant, shot ...
#3 Adding "intricate details" to the prompt will further magnify the subject

"Intricate details" will also give detail to each individual strand of hair on the animal.

#4 "Intricate details" also works for bigger subjects

It won't add so much detail, but it will zoom in on the hummingbird.

#5 Choose the correct location

A good prompt is only half the story.

Choose the subject and the environment wisely. A jungle pond will look better than a desert.

This is because MJ automatically adds a cozy atmosphere to the jungle, whereas deserts are hot and dry. green frog floating in a ra...a dung beetle in a desert, ...
#6 Think outside the box

Try out different subjects and environments.

For example, you can go for underwater macro shots.

This will add variety to your prompt toolbox.

The results are equally stunning. harlequin crab on reef shot...
#7 Macro shots can be used for objects

Macro shots usually capture animals or plants.

But they can also be used to take super close-up photos of man-made objects. a macro shot of a diamond r...

🧵Introducing 9 ways to use the tile parameter in Midjourney

Tile is an extremely useful parameter in Midjourney.

It generates images that align perfectly when placed side by side.

Thus, you can generate infinite repeating patterns.

Here are 9 practical ways you can use it⬇️ twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Image
To use the --tile parameter, follow these steps:

1⃣ Put --tile at the end of your prompt.
2⃣ Upscale the image that you like.
3⃣ Download the image.
4⃣ Duplicate the image in a image editor like PS or MS Paint.

Observe how the same image aligns perfectly with itself! Image
The tile parameter can be used for:

#1 Gift wrappers

Example prompt: cute, cartoon-style teddy bears, child's birthday gift wrap --tile

You can check that each image can indeed be perfectly tiled. cute, cartoon-style teddy b...

#1 Medium shot

This shot shows the subject from the chest up.

Note: The actual definition of a medium shot is from the waist up, but Midjourney interprets it differently.

Example: A medium shot of a young Nordic woman Image
#2 Closeup shot

This shot focuses tightly on the subject. Anything below the neck area is cropped away.

Note: If you add more details and an expression to the subject, it can look very intense.

Example: A closeup shot of a young Nordic woman Image

Sharing a useful #midjourney tip I learnt

"Intricate details" is a very powerful prompt.

Depending on your original image, it has different (and cool) effects.
