how i stopped binge eating

- an explicative thread from someone who is binge free for 10 months ImageImage
disclaimer

if you’re not from edtwt dni

english is not my first language so don’t mind mistakes

i don’t encourage you to do everything i do, stay safe and take care of yourself
- understand the psychology behind it

the vicious circle is - i eat bc i’m sad/empty/upset, then i’m sad bc i ate, so i eat again, and it makes me feel even worse
stop the “i’ll start tomorrow”, “it’s the last time”, we know well it’s gonna be exactly the same thing tomorrow
you have to stop it now
you have to find comfort in others things than food, find something to replace that that fill up the emotions you try to fill by eating
bc binge eating is not abt food, it’s abt bad emotions that you want to get rid off
stop being a slave of that feeling, you have the power to not do what it tells you to do
stop the urge to eat, the food is still gonna be there tomorrow
- stop controlling

the more you try to control that, the more you’re likely to end up binging
why ? - bc you put all your focus on food, so it’s on your mind everytime and you can’t avoid it
i realized that the times i was restricting the easiest was when i was highly focused
on something - i was doing my things all day, ate a little omad at the end of the day (still focusing on that certain thing), and keep going - food wasn’t on my mind at all bc i wasn’t trying to control it, i was too busy thinking abt something else
- change your brain schedule

find the moments or things that triggers binge eating and change your habits
for example, if you’re used to have dinner and one hour later going back to the kitchen to have a tea and then end up binging,
then every time you’re gonna say “ok i take my tea and that’s all” you’re gonna end up binging bc your brain is programmed and associated the tea after dinner with binge eating
what you have to do is doing things different, instead of taking your tea one hour after in the kitchen, prepare it right after your dinner and bring it to your room, or go for a walk at the time you usually go back to the kitchen
and take that new habit, so your brain is re programmed and has deleted the after dinner binge of his habits
⁃keep yourself busy

the main reason your thinking abt food is bc your bored and bc your always surrounded by food (in the media you’re consuming, on twitter for example) so find real things to do that physically keeps you away from food
if you sit in the living room to watch films all day long or stay on your phone, yes you’re probably gonna end up binging,
so you have to go for walks, spend the day in a city with friends, go to museum, exercise, learn a language at the library, read a book outside
the best is to fill your day with so many interesting things to do that you won’t have the time think abt food or not enough to make that an obsession
- find a purpose

stopping binge eating is not just abt food and emotions, it’s a journey to become your healthier self, it’s kinda related with manifestation - who do you want to be, how is your better self, does she go to the gym, does she speak a certain language, read
write it down and find the things/steps you have to do to become that person, and do it
become obsessed with upgrading and with the person you could be if you focus on your well being instead of focusing on your bad emotions
- be kind to yourself

i know this one is hard
forgive yourself and let go of the guilt
understand that by doing this you’re hurting your body, your brain, and the vision you have of yourself
you’re probably not happy with your body rn, so do this for your body, start to think “everytime i eat healthier and don’t allow myself to overeat, i do a favor to my body and my mind, i’m treating them well”
you deserve to be healthy
- cutting certain type of food or not ?

some people says that you have to keep eating every type of food to not frustrate yourself and end up binging

personally i cut processed food, highly sugary and carbs food from my diet, and i realized that now,
theses types of food disgust me and i could never go back, my body is not used to eat this anymore and can’t process it
plus by cutting processed food, i find the real taste of food again, which means that processed food taste way too sweet or heavy for me,
i don’t have cravings anymore
my family eats very healthy so i always had a healthy diet
- eat whole food and protein
- understand that you have to heal the source of the problem not the consequences
bc the void your trying to fill is never gonna be filled
- finally

have strength to not waste years in that vicious circle
there is so many things waiting for you outside, don’t stay stuck into those bad habits
i may am an orthorexic now, but i’m physically and mentally way healthier, my life has completely change
- update months after

i’m not bloated anymore (also bc i cut processed food)
i don’t go to bed and wake up with awful stomach pain
i have a way better self image
i almost don’t feel guilty when i eat
i try to better understand my emotions and found other ways to deal with it
i don’t have cravings anymore
i have time to think abt many interesting things
i’m living for real
