I recently discovered that borrowing ebooks and audiobooks from the library is WAY easier than I could've imagined.

If you're sinking money into Audible or buying ebooks that you only read once... let me enlighten you! 📚 1/
First things first: You need a library card. If you don't have one, you can probably get one online using your local library's website.

Usually you need an ID and a mailing address that matches the area your library is in.

And of course, it's free! 💸 2/
Next, you'll need to download the @LibbyApp. This is also completely free!

It works with over 90% of public libraries in North America and in 78 countries worldwide. You can check in advance if your library is covered at overdrive.com/libraries. /3
Just enter your library card information into Libby and you can start borrowing and reading immediately in two ways:

📖 E-books
Borrow an e-book and read it on the Libby app or transfer it to your e-reader (like a Kindle or Nook) so you can read it on your preferred device. 4/
🎧 Audiobooks
Borrow an audiobook and listen on your device, or pair Libby with a bluetooth speaker if you want to play your audiobook aloud. 5/
All your borrowing is through your specific library, so you will have access to whatever books they have. At busier libraries, there might be longer wait times for popular books — but just like with paper books, you can place holds. 6/
I use @goodreads to help me with this — I keep track of what books I want to read, so I can place multiple holds and always have something to read. Right now I have 10 books on hold, with wait times ranging from 2 weeks to 14 weeks. 7/
@goodreads You can also have multiple library cards! Some libraries offer non-resident cards (some for a fee): aworldadventurebybook.com/blog/libraries…

Research locally — e.g., Denver Public Library allows any student at a Colorado university to get a card, even if they don't live in Denver county. 8/
The best part is, you get to read for free without harming authors in the process. That's because public libraries actually benefit authors! Here's a great article with more info in case you want to learn how: medium.com/a-thousand-liv…

Happy reading! 9/9 📚
