She: When my children misbehave and I'm correcting them, I remind them of who they are and that misbehaving isn't part of their nature.
Me: Wow! Please walk me through a typical correction process for your children.
She: OK Pastor! So for instance, if one of my sons told...
...a lie, I'd correct him in this manner, "Hey Boy, you're a blessed child and blessed children don't tell lies.
If you tell lies, you're denying and betraying your own nature and that's self-deception. The devil is the father of lies and you're not his child but a child...
...of God. That's why you're blessed. Is the devil your father?
Son: No mummy!
She: Then tell the truth always like God's blessed child.
Son: Yes Mummy!"
This is how I go about my correction.
Me (full of smiles): That's amazing. So what has been the effect of this...
...correction style on them?
She: Anytime they catch themselves doing the wrong thing, they immediately tell themselves, "I'm a blessed child and blessed children shouldn't do this", and they desist from doing it.
Me (in my head and full of wide smiles): "Train up a child...
...in the way he should go; even when he is old HE WILL NOT DEPART FROM IT" Proverbs 22:6.
Dear Parents, even if you're angry with your child for being wrong, use the Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).
This was my inspiring convo with an older Christian woman.
I received lots of messages from around the world on how to study the Bible using verses.
I.e. How to have a better understanding of a particular verse of scripture and I thought to share in this thread.
In this thread, you'll be informed on; 1. How to start studying a verse 2. How to connect it to other verses
For the purpose of this thread, we'll use Genesis 1:1 as case study.
1. CHOOSE THE VERSE!
As simple as this may sound, you have to be led by the Spirit to the right verse to study. Of course, you could also select a verse you believe you need more insight into.
Case study: Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
It'll guide your walk with God and you'll get a better understanding of the kind of choices you make.
Matthew 4:1-11 talks about the 3 temptations of Jesus in the wilderness.
But do you know those temptations were just a refined form...
...of what happened in the garden of Eden?
Let's dig in!
The strategies of Satan hasn't changed over the period and that includes his temptations. He may disguise or refine them but it doesn't change and so Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 2:11 that, "Lest Satan should...
...get an advantage of us: for WE ARE NOT IGNORANT OF HIS DEVICES."
The temptations of Satan to Jesus in the wilderness is the same temptation to Adam/Eve in the garden of eden, and it's the same to man today!
Joshua 1:8 says, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt...
...make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success".
Memorizing the scriptures has a plethora of benefits but a few include;
A. Helps you exercise your mind to retain the word of God.
B. It equips you for the evil day (reference: Jesus in the wilderness).
In this thread, you'll learn very practical but simple tips and or steps to effective memorization of the scriptures.
