🔥 here it is, the Ultimate Ukrainian Swearing Thread🔥 or 5 Ukrainian swearing phrases to get you started😈

(fingers crossed twitter doesn’t take down this thread , at least not right away ahaha)

Here’s what you need to get rolling 🔥
⬇️🧵 Image
1 - yobana rusnya - йобана русня - йбн рсн - “fcking russians”
yo like in your+ba like in bun +na like in nah
+
roo like in roots +s like in strong + nya like what Japanese cats say /ᐠ。ᐟ\

I guess is the most used swearing in Ukraine right now .
also used as йбн рсн
⬇️ Image
yobana comes from yibaty (*бати )= “to fck”

yi like in yield + ba like in bun + ty like in tea but try making not small “ee” but kind of like big “ee” sound. Think of “eww” you say when feel disgusted, and pick the sound in the beginning - it’s very close to Ukrainian “y” (и)
⬇️
yobana is an adjective, can be translated as “fcking” and can be attached as an adjective to whatever you want to express your angered frustration about : tsia yobana robota! (ця йобана робота) - “this fcking job!”.
⬇️
rusnya is a way how Ukrainians started to call russians from the beginning of full-scale invasion to show disgust, but technically it is just a bit change word “russian”.

Also used as рсн

⬇️
Pay attention that
ending of words in Ukrainian changes depending on word you use it with: yobana (йобана) with feminine form words and yobanyi (has this “y” (и) sound I mentioned before) with masculine form words.
example: “йобаний дощ” - yobanyi doshch! - fcking rain!
⬇️
When to use it: yobana is perfect to express anger and tension, mainly when it’s not to the face of the object of your hate.
Example: “russians attacked Odesa again this night! Yobana rusnya!”
⬇️
2- Chorty yibani - чорти їбані - “fcking demons”

Cho like in chop + rolling “r” like in great by Tigger in Winnie-the-Pooh (or like by Joey when he imitates Tony from the pack of cornflakes :) )
+
yi like in yield + ba like in bun + ni like in knee
⬇️
When to use it: whenever you want to express angry frustration with someone, here it’s plural but you certainly can do singular, it’ll be “chort yibanyi”. In Ukrainian context, it’s similar to when you can use yobana rusnya or just yobana/yobanyi
⬇️
It is perfect to express anger and tension, mainly when it’s not to the face of the object of your hate.
Example: russians had just hit the hospital! Chorty yibani!
⬇️
3 - m*skal - м*скаль - “fcking russian”
mosk like in mosque +al like alienated , with “l” being soft (try putting your tongue closer to front teeth, a bit pushing into them)
⬇️
it’s how Ukrainians’d call russians historically to insult since russia have been the aggressor towards Ukraine for centuries. An average russian most likely will feel insulted if you call them that, even though it means literally just “a person from moscovia” -⬇️
“moscovia” is real name of russia before it stole the“rus” part from “Kyivan Rus”- ancient state with Kyiv as its capital

📸⬇️ Coat of arms of Moscovia, "Stemmatografia", 1702 Image
Example: “I m*skalya nema, nemaye m*skalya” - (“and there is no m*skal, there is no m*skal” - lyrics from “Arta” song by Ukrainian band “Pyriatyn”. Btw, it kinda became an anthem for Ukrainian artillery.

Pyriatyn are awesome. So check them out⬇️

Note: russians got good in reporting this word to social media admins, so use it wisely and kind of like you’d use “fck”.
⬇️
4 - Pyzdets’ - пиздець - “fck my life!” / “(this is a) clusterfck!”
py like in pit but with this “y” (и) sound mentioned earlier +strong z like in zoo+ de like in depth + ts like in tzatziki , but with soft “s” in the end (try putting your tongue closer to front teeth)
⬇️
When to use it: when you want to express frustration, tension. Also can be used to stress that something is really good/you like something very much

Example (bad): “and then he told me that on a top of all that they fire him. tse (“this is”) pyzdets.”
⬇️
(something good): “tse meni pyzdets’ yak podobayetsia!” - - мені це пиздець як подобається! - “I like it so fcking much!”
⬇️
5- idy na khui! - іди на х*й! - “go fck yourself!”
idy like in idiot but with bigger “i” in the end - the “и” sound I told you earlier - +nah +who+ “y” like in Monday
⬇️
I’m sure you’ve heard the famous “russian military ship, go fck yourself” .

And this last part is precisely what “idy na khui” is.

When to use it: either to say it in a face of the one you feel rage towards to or when they are not around - like “they can go fck themselves”
⬇️
Example: “and after all that you’ve done you want me to help you? idy na khui!”
⬇️

Bilhorod (the real name of Belgorod ) was a Ukrainian city once - up until russian Bolsheviks army entered it in 1918 and in 1919 made it part of russia

Quick history thread 🧵
When russian empire collapsed in 1917, question arose abt borders of new national states. Ukraine claimed territory inhabited mainly by Ukrainians while Bolsheviks wanted to seize the entire territory of former empire

In villages of "adjacent" territories, councils began to gather to decide which state they should join. Some villages voted for Ukraine, some - for Belarus. Then similar decisions were made by city councils and etc,

This is Mykola Fedirko. He is 22 and he got wounded in Donbas while defending Ukraine from russian invaders. "I got on a plane for the first time," Mykola says.

"I would like to go to Denmark on vacation, not to the hospital because of my wound," says Mykola Fedirko. His lower leg is being held in place by metal pins. Before the war, Mykola worked as a salesman.

This day 1 year ago my former VOA colleague from time when I worked in US texted me. She asked me what I can say about Sasha Kuvshynova. I said she is smart and fun to work and be around with. I thought they wanted to offer her a job. Turned out they were writing her obituary
“I’m so sorry” my colleague said, after all my praise for Sasha. I was like “Why? I just spoke to her a week ago, she’s okay, sent me this selfie”. And then my colleague just sent me the link:
couldn’t believe it. were one of most painful seconds in my life. can literally see moment in texts when it starts to slowly sink in. kept repeating “oh my god Sasha” . Later that day will come to my friend with bottle of brandy that we will drink in silence.

I always had this thing with food. Not talking comfort food or bulimia. It’s when I skip a meal, my heart starts racing. Anxiety breaks through roof. I feel like I’m gonna die this very second if I don’t eat. Like. Right. Now.

And I’ve just understood it’s because of Holodomor.
It was always like that. Sneaking out of classes to run to diner to buy and gulp a cake. Like my life depends on it. Going berserk after rehearsal when I forgot to have snack with me. Was calling it an attack or other fancy word - smth with dropped level of sugar in my blood.
But just recently, my friend made a post. Describing same very thing with food. Same horror I feel every time I don’t have food when I need it. Then other Ukrainians started sharing same horror, in comments.

“It’s all because of Holodomor” - she said.
And it hit me.
