The French overseas territory St. Pierre et Miquelon (population 5,800) now has the highest tariff rates in the world at 99%
Their exports are valued at just $3.5 million dollars a year. My guess as to what happened here is that they likely export a tiny amount (like $100 k worth of lobsters) to America without importing anything in return. So the insane White House algorithm (trade deficit/imports) would have produced this insane 99% tariff figure.
So unbelievably stupid, incompetent and insane
Awesome, my guess was actually correct. I figured it out in like 5 seconds and I have zero economics training. Which means random 25 year old Australian shitposter is smarter than the people currently formulating the economic policy of the White House
Interesting historical anecdote: The tiny island of Saint Pierre and Miquelon played very outsized role in the history of Gaullism. The Americans tried to block the Free French from seizing the territory - De Gaulle’s decision to liberate them anyway sparked a major international crisis. The US Secretary of State at the time Cordell Hull blew a gasket and compared De Gaulle’s action to Nazi and Imperial Japanese aggression. The whole episode probably played role in convincing De Gaulle of the importance of never being dependent on the Americans
I VISITED THE MOST DANGEROUS CITY IN UKRAINE
I saw the ghastly ''Human Safari'' Russian terror campaign in Kherson. I saw it with my own eyes. Constant shelling and drone attacks. Entire streets deserted like the apocalypse.
We walked down some streets where our guide estimated we had a 1 in 10 chance of being struck by Russian drones.

Kherson: Deadliest City in Ukraine
Documentary by Drew Pavlou
While in the city I filmed interviews with torture survivors who endured Russian occupation as well as local volunteers working with World Aid Runners, the last international humanitarian aid organisation left in the city.
They feed up to 900 people a month which means they are feeding up to 2% of the entire remaining population of Kherson (50,000 people).
These are some of the most desperate people on Earth.
For just $11 USD you can provide a care package that can help a civilian survive an entire month in the city.
I highly recommend subscribers donate to World Aid Runners: worldaidrunners.org
“The Hijabi Lawyer” AKA Ramia A Sultan defends the two Sydney nurses filmed talking about killing Jews, arguing that the true victims are Muslims “entrapped” and victimised by Islamophobic media.
She’s a member of the Australian Palestine Activist Network board.
Compiling thread below on all the most deranged attempts to defend the indefensible.
Prominent Melbourne socialist activist Matt Chun defends the two Sydney nurses talking about killing Australian Jews by resorting to whataboutism about Gaza.
The left wing anti-Zionist Jewish Council of Australia put out complete non-statement “we await a full investigation with unedited footage.” Prominent Melbourne Palestine activist attacks Jewish Council, arguing the insane jihadist nurses were “provoked”
THREAD. Today I decided to browse Weibo, one of the biggest social media sites in China (600 million active users).
I was stunned by the rabid amount of anti-Semitism and anti-Western hatred on the site. Check out this post with 4500 likes:
Selection of top comments on Chinese social media giant Weibo when it comes to Israel.
''Israeli Jews are demons in human form.''
''Hitler is completely whitewashed.''
''Kill alL israeli Nazis.''
''Looking around the world, is there any decent religion that dares support what the Jews do? Evil, evil!''
This guy ''White Wolf in the Forest'' has more than 3 million followers on Weibo. He's talking about the Holocaust: ''We should be cautious about the massacre of the Jews.''
An Israeli dentist saved Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar's life when he was desperately ill in Israeli prison.
Sinwar returned to Gaza in 2011 as part of a hostage exchange deal and ultimately planned the October 7 massacre. The Israeli dentist's nephew was taken as a hostage. nytimes.com/2024/05/26/wor…
“During the day you would treat them and at night you come home and cry,” he said. “That happened many, many nights. Once there was a suicide attack near where my parents lived. Sixteen Jews were killed. Who would not cry at night? When you see a small baby being lifted, who wouldn’t cry?”
Sinwar's brutality as a young Hamas counter-intelligence officer was legendary.
''In an interrogation after his arrest in 1988, he dispassionately described shooting one man, strangling another with his bare hands, suffocating a third with a kaffiyeh, and choking and punching a fourth before tossing him in a hastily dug grave. Records of the interrogation make clear that, far from being remorseful, Mr. Sinwar saw beating confessions out of the collaborators as a righteous duty.''
