Ok here is my thread on Omaeda. This thread is just to show hes not a trash character that provides nothing to the series. I don't even know if I'd argue hes a "solid" character but the point of this is to say that hes not a bad character that takes away from the series.

He's first introduced in chapter 138 of the manga along with Soi fon. He's shown complaining about some soul reapers arguing right and wrong while eating rice crackers. Soi fon agrees with him and then says she doesn't care about right or wrong.

She also says if he gets in her way hes her enemy too. He then isnt seen until the execution is starting and he's waiting along with Soi fon. This is like a brief one liner scene.

He then has a panel where he's reacting in shock to the sokyoku being released. Soi fon then yells at him to stop Shunsui and Ukitake (lol) but hes too shocked to react.

He then is one of the 3 vice captains who run at Ichigo and gets insta destroyed by him. He has no scenes until the Fake karakura town arc after this. My entire point is please explain to me why he's so hated when nothing here should be reason to shit on him like people do?

Moving onto his FKT arc scenes. This fight I have to assume is why so many people say "hes treated as a joke" or say hes a terrible character thats just for comedic relief. Because there is nothing else really that treats him as a joke or comedic relief.

I've basically went through every single scene he has in the entire story so far. He's mostly used as a character that is always shocked/out of the loop for exposition. He's not used for comedic purposes at all really. He has so little scenes im confused why ppl hate him.

I realized this HAS to be because of the original anime.... Thats where he has way more scenes and is used for "comedic" purposes and is treated as a joke.... Damn.

These scenes are right before his fight. This to me isnt comedic. Just showing off how nervous the shinigami are in general. Its just they react and get effected in different ways. If anything this scene shows how its effecting to them.

Soi fon reacts in a totally Soi fon way by lessening his worry and making him way more motivated and less stressed while still pretending to not care about him dying/wanting him to die. This is actually pretty sweet if you think about it.

These panels are semi comedic but its like a single interaction.... Then it goes into the other guy taunting him and he does a little complaining.

Then he has a little more dialogue complaining and basically having a shit talking match and then its revealed he was actually doing this to bait the guy and trick him.

Then its revealed while he was acting to trick his enemy he's also truly an arrogant person who doesnt think too much. This is the first true comedic use of Omaeda's character in the entire story to me. This was just a silly little fun moment to me. Don't get the hate for him.

To me its not that im laughing from this scene its just something you take about 2 seconds to read and move on nothing that bad to dwell on it and say its shit.

Omaeda then gets saved by Soi fon and proceeds to do a little (wrong) exposition for Soi fons fight. He then tries to help her. Pretty good moment for him to me? Remember Soi fon characterized him this way. Just showing hes more than just a stupid asshole with money.

Soi fon reveals she was purposely not taking it seriously to test the water against the arrancar. He then has this moment of feeling injustice at Soi fon for scolding for trying to help. This is fair to consider a comedic scene so this would be his second to me.

It then turns into a serious moment of Soi fon getting characterization through Omaeda taking initiative to give her an opportunity to do that. This actually happens OFTEN and probably the thing he's used most for in the entire series. To allow Soi fon to get characterization.

This is extremely consistent. Omaeda basically exists to give Soi fon more dialogue and moments. If you are a fan of Soi fon and love her you should be extremely happy Omaeda exists.

Soi fon and him then have a moment where they are getting toyed with my barragan and he's basically used to show how bad of a position the Soul society Shinigami are in rn.

Barragan then uses his ressureccion and it gives Soi fon another moment. Showing how even though she tries to be this cold emotionless killer she really cares about people. She then gets hit by the respira and Omaeda hesitates to cut off her arm again showing his compassion.

You can say its stupid and hes causing her to lose more of her body/experience more pain by hesitating but its completely disingenuous to say this hesitation doesn't show he obviously cares for and respects her heavily. All of his moments with her show that actually.

Then a little more exposition and gassing of Soi fon. Then this moment where I guess I see why people would see this as him being a joke but I don't really feel that way. Again just a little silly moment to make you curious about what Soi fon is up to.

Omaeda then runs and stalls Barragan and Soi fon is now ready. Soi fon then fires her bankai at Barragan and Omaeda comes in to break her fall. She then of course insults him as thats just their silly dynamic.

Other than being used in a few minor panels to show shock at the Aizen hollow and the Visored his next scene is here. AGAIN being used to give Soi fon some dialogue and showing more of her character and opinions. This time on the Visored.

He then takes a backseat for the rest of the fight as he has no way to help them at all. He is then apart of the ICONIC panel. He has no more scenes Until the tybw arc. I don't get why he's so disliked when this arc has everything to be considered "bad." He is only good in tybw.

I'll come back and finish this with his stuff from the tybw arc tomorrow. I think i've pretty much proves my point tybw arc stuff just nails it in because he has basically only great scenes. Him getting more focus in the anime really just means more Soi fon focus/gas.
