I just saw someone say Story Quality is subjective, and I wanted to claw my eyes out.
Since everyone wants to be a fucking idiot about literally the most objective artform that is writing, let me explain something.
Just because you enjoy something doesn't make it good. You can play with a piece of shit and find enjoyment in that but it is still a pile of shit.
No amount of perspective or subjectivity can change the objective truth. Same with writing quality. You can't bullshit it like a stupid modern art piece. You have to do the right things at the right times with the right notes. Otherwise, stories fall apart without structure.
Even breaking the rules of writing has objective reasoning, which is why there is a right way to subvert and a wrong way to subvert and it requires a strong understanding of the rules you are trying to break so you can break them right.
So get it through your thick skulls when I say you need to learn to separate objective quality from subjective enjoyment.
As a writer, I am really tired of the bullshit.
Any questions? No. Good. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I will never understand why people will defend bad edgy power fantasy media and yet condemn something doing the same thing for women.
Don't play favorites like a brain dead husk and actually be honest on why you like these things.
At least I lack that brain damage to see both.
Seriously. Prototype and Forspoken are basically the same power fantasy game but one is beloved and the other is cringe.
Which is funny because they are both cringe in opposite ways.
Meanwhile, you have games that use their edginess effectively to tell a story like Legacy of Kain or lampshades edginess into style and cool like Devil May Cry.
Yet people always have to go for the maximum even at the cost of plot and character coherence.
