Quick Introductions for anyone who doesn't know who we are: Doodle here, before you ask yes, we talking in "Third person", we have a history of DID and it's one of the main coping mechanisms to deal with it.
With that out of the way, Doodle would like to tell you about our experience working for TheCaliEffect from December 2022 - June 3rd 2023.
At first, it was a good start. Doodle originally was hired as an artist to do the new dual challenge logo splash screen animation. It was Doodle's usual client work. But at the time Cali always seemed to need editors (This should have been a red flag).
Doodle personally never touched video editing but had a long history of studying filmmaking, and experience with both 3D and 2D animation gave Doodle the edge in picking up the skill set.
Doodle is also very easy to teach and learn new things. Over the next few weeks Doodle sat in video calls with Cali watching him Edit and in our spare time watching tons of tutorials and stuff.
Doodle learned so much that Doodle was constantly teaching Cali things he never knew in his "10+ years of editing" when doodle been at it for 2-3 weeks.
Originally Cali assigned Doodle as the sole editor of CasualCali and said we'll start at $10 a video 3 videos a week and increase this over time as the new channel grew.

But what he didn't inform Doodle was the fact that said videos would be 1–2-hour long clips from his live streams with unscripted pacing and TONS of dead space that needed watched through and edited out or even re-arranged so it flows better.
To make matters worse Doodle was working with outdated Software because Doodle was forced to use a old pirated version of Premier pro because Cali was to cheap to pay for a legal version of it. And Doodle was so underpaid they couldn't afford it themselves.
Instantly Doodle felt overwhelmed but Cali also thought Doodle was too good for a side channel and ultimately put Doodle as the main editor for the main channel within a month of learning how to edit. This was a bit of a motivational boost to continue despite how Doodle felt.

At this time is when Doodle started their $20-30 a video pay. Usually only $25 except in rare cases. During the first 2-3 months Doodle and Cali were constantly in voice chats Cali was always asking Doodle for advice on stuff despite him being the one supposed to teach Doodle.

Honestly, it felt like Doodle was being treated as a content advisor without being paid for such things.

But as a result, we saw considerable growth in the Channel at this point going from averaging 800k-1mil monthly views to 2.2–2.6mil monthly views and subscription gains going up and no sign of slowing down.
Our relationship was no longer a friendship at this point and instead, just an abusive work relationship where one side was giving more than they received.
But Doodle was too poor to see our own value so we continued our job and constantly improved upon ourselves as an editor and ultimately as a creator advisor or assistant.
As time progressed communication halted entirely and He didn't even talk to Doodle anymore he just had his wife or TopDeckTJ tell Doodle the files were up and what the deadline was.

Which in turn caused a TON of problems since miscommunication issues arose. Ultimately 6 months in Doodle hesitantly decided it was no longer worth working for the Calieffect and his 'company',

As June rolls through Calieffect's content begins to tank hard. which is kind to be expected when your best editor walks away from your channel. But even at this point, Doodle was okay walking away from this with a loss.
The main reason we decided to publicly bring this story to light is that we opened our YTJobs portfolio to find our entire portfolio has been rejected by the creator and he denied we ever worked for him.

Doodle could handle everything else and be disrespected for all the work they did but for him to deny us even having credit for said work is beyond redemption. Especially considering he was our only video editing reference. Which could lead to Doodle being homeless.
So that's Doodle's Story and our experience working for the Yugituber known as TheCaliEffect. and as Cali put it. Doodle's not doing this anymore.
Doodle said what they wanted to say what happens next is up to the whim of others. Doodle's only wish is for people to avoid repeating these mistakes and avoid letting Cali repeat his actions. This felt like it was worth going public about even though it goes against our nature.
Doodle would like to clarify a few things Doodle also fixed when Steevie asked. The 1-2 hr of footage was often 40+ minutes of raw footage from his streams since Cali would record most of his video's core content on stream. Then send Doodle the files (late in the day usually)
Which would be another 20-30 minutes, either later that night (usually 9 pm or later Doodle's time) send Doodle the intros/outros, or sometimes not even the day of the video being due hours before it goes live. Which lead to countless sleepless nights.
This would also lead to the intros feeling out of place from the rest of the edit which is when Cali would proceed to complain by saying stuff like "this intro isn't it" and say he'll re-edit it himself. but in return, he honestly made them worse. just to fit his bias opinions.
so yes Cali did redo Doodle's work often but that's always been his own fault or his own personal bias taste of outdated editing techniques or low standards. and it was only ever the first intro section he never touched the rest of the video let alone look at it.
another thing Doodle would like to address is why Doodle did not respond to Cali when he was trying to lure Doodle out on the live stream. Nothing good would have happened if Doodle spoke out at that time. Plus it was very overwhelming both positively and negatively.
Also, there was no way for him to fix the portfolio because once the Verify link for a portfolio is denied the option to send the link is removed for that channel. So Cali will have to directly contact YTjob's staff team. which would only make the situation worse at the time.
Doodle honestly does not wish to directly contact Cali at this time as we still feel hurt and the stuff he said on stream didn't help especially screaming for us to apologize (not asking) but has touched base with his wife, who Doodle has always had a good relationship with.
Doodle will be following up on more at a later time. and again thank everyone for all the support.
Good morning everyone. First of all, Doodle would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support, Doodle's heart literally hurt from it we had to walk away from social media and just go relax at the card shop play some games, etc.
After enough rest Doodle is feeling better, but Doodle is sorry for disappearing suddenly. with that out of the way, Doodle has a few updates to address. The first thing is Doodle's YTjobs profile has been restored, so that's good.
Doodle is going to take their past experience and learn from Doodle's mistakes to move forward and hopefully have a better life moving forward. The Second thing Doodle would like to follow up on is the whole 'no experience' side of the drama.
Yes, it is true Doodle never touched a video editing dedicated software before Cali asked Doodle if they could learn it so Doodle could edit videos. But Doodle was already well experienced in other fields. Doodle is a well-versed Concept artist for over a decade,
Doodle also has experience in animation both 2D and 3D and live2D, So we already understood keyframing and pacing, and how to control animations with anchor points to make things more fluid, etc. So motion graphics and such were second nature.
Doodle is well versed in many other fields as well, but not all of them directly but may have indirectly helped Doodle pick up editing so quickly. Doodle also has a brain condition in which their brain is still "a sponge" and Doodle can quickly absorb knowledge and retain it.
This is why Cali mentioned editing for him for almost a month before Doodle decided we'll give it ago after we finished our current client's commissions. Doodle was indeed oblivious to what editors should/could be paid so Doodle trusted Cali's judgement.
obviously, this was Doodle's mistake and one Doodle did learn from. When Doodle's not working we're usually watching guides and tutorials on youtube and other learning sites So we are constantly improving. the downside of a self-motivated freelancer ^^'
anyways sorry Doodle ranted enough about that.
The last thing Doodle wants to address is the gifts Cali and TJ have given Doodle in the past 6 months.
First of all the $150 which was 1/3 to help pay the down payment for their low-income apartment in section-8 housing assistance.
Doodle never asked him to do this he just noticed Doodle was stressed at the time and asked what was wrong Doodle shared they were calling friends and family to try and get help. and he sent it anyways. Doodle was never ungrateful for such things.
but, doodle never considered them part of our work life. The second Gift Doodle would like to address is the punk core TJ sent doodle. Doodle randomly said in Cali's public discord when TJ was heavily into pure punk. Doodle jokingly said Hey TJ should send doodle some punks,
because by this point doodle was considered "one of the bois" according to Cali and tj. so it was mostly a joke but TJ insisted on sending us the core anyways despite Doodle asking if they were sure multiple times. so this was 100% a gift.
The 3rd "gift" that Doodle never knew about and never actually received is this so-called new PC. Apparently, Cali and TJ got together to build Doodle a new PC as a surprise. This apparently started around the same time Cali and his wife got new PCs as well.
he also upgraded his recording equipment at this time. Despite this being multiple months ago Doodle never heard a thing about this PC except "We have a present for you"

with all of these things Addressed and all of the sides said. Doodle would also like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement. Doodle got their portfolio back and Doodle already knows going public with this has helped spread awareness for young editors.
Doodle is ultimately grateful for the experiences we had over the past 6 months both the good and the bad and will continue moving forward and improving ourselves. Doodle's only hope is others can also learn from this experience. Doodle will wrap it up here. Thank you, everyone.
Doodle hopes all parties involved including the communities learn from this and continue to move forward.
