❗️What I learned after becoming a 2D VTuber for 1 year:

1. The VTubing community is mainly on twitter 😔
2. I jumped from 30 avg viewers with my 3D model, to 100+ avg viewers with my 2D model
3. Just because someone else is a fellow VTuber does not mean they will be nice to you
4. There is a different dynamic with Hobby VTubers vs Career VTubers
5. People will compare you to xyz character, try to not let it bother you so much.
6. People will try to be creepy about your OC, treat them like a weirdchamp-
7. It can be hard to build deeper friendships when both VTubers are super busy people. Try to be there when you can
8. There is a whole group of people who hate VTubers out there. Usually they’re just children
9. Some VTubers role play a character, some only slightly-
10. Corporate VTubing is the fastest way to gain a twitter following and have a “stable” job
11. Indie can be rough because you are your own boss 99% of the time
12. Maintain before growing
13. Followers on another platform do NOT equal high viewer count on twitch-
14. You will make mistakes, but there’s no success guide to VTubing out there so keep pushing through
15. A VTubing mascot was one of the best decisions ever
16. Popular VTubers aren’t untouchable. They just might be content with their current # of friends and don’t want more-
17. Your character is your face. But your personality is what keeps people engaged
18. If you’re bad at design (me), hire a designer
19. Your community wants to see you succeed.
20. People will look past someone’s mistakes more readily if they have a large following-
21. Beware of leeches
22. People will assume you know every VTuber out there, take that time to learn about them with your community
23. Become very expressive while streaming
24. It takes time to get comfortable with your own voice and mannerisms in front of a crowd-
25. Live within your means, it’s very easy to spend money in this community
26. Take note of the artists you worked with that were amazing, you’ll become a return customer.
27. An editor for videos is NOT a requirement. But very helpful. (Costs $$$)
28. Your community on twitter will not be the same as your community on Instagram
29. Treasure your twitch viewers, they’re spending their day with you!
30. Only reach out to collab if you’ve done your research about the other VTuber-
31. Parasocials are a little comical especially if you’ve never shown your face. They’re in love with a character.
32. That being said, know that you can ban/remove them. I like to tell them why beforehand in hopes they learn for the next person-
33. If you love your current design, build on it instead of rebranding
34. You will be called a 40yr old man with a voice changer
35. When you take time to step away from being a VTuber, you appreciate the work you’ve put into it more
36. There will always be favoritism-
37. Be inspired not an imitator
38. You are a niche within a niche. Discoverability will be hard.
39. The people at the top will most likely stay there for awhile. Try to find a cozy spot for yourself in this saturated community and work your way up!-
40. The world of VTubing can feel so important and so small. But realize that there are people out there who still have no clue who tf you are.
41. Be humble 🤍
42. Try to surround yourself with other VTubers who share your same goals
I was a VR tiktoker for 2 years. Tried streaming off and on for awhile before learning what a VTuber was. Now here I am 👹
