THREAD — Russia and Ukraine Accuse Each Other of Planning an Attack on Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

Two weeks ago, Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal introduced a resolution stating that an attack on a Ukrainian nuclear facility would be an attack on NATO.

2) Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal stated that "the destruction of a nuclear facility that disperses radioactive contaminants into NATO territory would be viewed as an attack on NATO itself, requiring an Article V response."

3) Senator Lindsey Graham warned the Russian military, "If you follow the order of Putin to blow up the nuclear facility, the plant, to radiate Europe... I consider that an attack on NATO... If you follow this order... you will be at war with NATO."

4) Yesterday, President Zelenskyy accused Russia of planting explosives on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which Russian troops occupy, stating, "It is the responsibility of everyone in the world to stop it, no one can stand aside, as radiation affects everyone.”

5) On the same day, Russian officials warned that Ukraine was planning to attack the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant using long-range precision weapons and kamikaze attack drones, including ammunition laced with nuclear waste from one of the country's other nuclear facilities.

6) There are three nuclear power plants on Ukrainian territory — Rivno, Khmelnitsky, and South Ukraine — but Russia is plotting an act of nuclear terrorism on a plant under its control and possession?

So NATO and the US can join the war?

7) On June 22, 2023, Senators Graham and Blumenthal warned Russia that they would be "eviscerated" if they attacked themselves at the Zaporozhzia nuclear plant. Simultaneously, President Zelenskyy accused Russia of planning a terrorist attack on the Zaporozhzia nuclear facility.

8) The day after US Senators warned Russia that they would be "eviscerated" by NATO if they attacked the nuclear plant, Ukraine's chief spy, Kyrylo Budanov, claimed that Russia had finalized their preparations to blow up the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant under their control.

9) On June 29, 2023, Ukraine's government released a heavily edited video depicting nuclear explosions, individuals in hazmat suits, and a child holding a gas mask, accompanied by the claim that "Russia is plotting a terrorist attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant."

10) On June 29, 2023, Rafael Grossi, the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency refuted Zelenskyy's claim that Russia plans to blow up the nuclear plant.

"I did not see this kind of development. Our teams are there, and they are reporting every day what's happening."

11) On June 29, 2023, the Ukrainian government held emergency disaster drills to prepare for a possible disaster at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

12) The emergency disaster drills, which simulated an attack of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, were coordinated by Ukraine's Minister of Energy, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and the Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
